Assalamualaikum readers. Currently, I've been given the strength and permission by Allah SWT to attend lectures by Ustaz Hafidz As-Suhaimi. This weekly lecture is carried out every Friday at Madrasah Al-Maarif, which is located near Paya Lebar MRT station, Singapore. It starts roughly around 9.15 PM and ends around 10.45 PM latest, after which there will be some pencak silat training.

For the benefit of those who did not get the chance or could not make time for this lecture which I find very useful and easy to understand, Ustaz has allowed lecture to be recorded in an audio .wav format and share it with everyone insha'Allah.

Extract From “Sufi Sage of Arabia”

The following extract was copy pasted from the book entitled "Sufi Sage of Arabia", which is a book about Imam `Abdallah ibn `Alawi al-Haddad. This book is currently loaned from Yishun Library, but it is for sale at Al-Markaz, Arabic Language Centre, located just outside Sultan Mosque in Singapore. There are other good books there with regards to Sufism.

Imam Haddad is one of the high ranked saints who became totally blind after a sickness befell him. But even so, he still received many visitors who came to ask him about issues related both to the world and the Thereafter. His house is as small as an MPV car. During his young life, he used to attend Quran recitation lessons after Fajr and straight after, he will go to any mosque and pray 1000 – 2000 rakaats voluntarily. Subhanallah. He is also one of the wali khutub. Here's the extract:

In effect, the Imam was well known to endure quite patiently whatever harm came to him from his relatives, in-laws, companions, visitors, or any other member of the community. This had always been and still is the Alawi tradition. His rule was, as he put it, "We never censure or ask to account those who are neglectful towards us."

When one of his companions complained to him that a certain man had abused him, he answered, "Can you not bear a few words? We hear what is being said to us, forgive those who abuse us, and treat them well." And when a man publicly abused him on the street, he sent him a gift of money and apologized to him. *end quote

From here, we can learn about how we should control our anger. Nowadays, we get many accusations and fitnah. Also, it is not uncommon that people use vulgarities on us, sometimes getting our family names involved. The saint or wali imam al-Haddad teaches us to take all these in and let go, making sure that we don't get our emotions and feelings provoked at the same time. We can learn how much love and understanding he has for other human beings that he take all those insults as mistakes human beings normally make, instead of a big issue. Insha'Allah, may this be of good knowledge for us to apply in our daily life. Ameen.

Assalamualaikum / Greetings dear readers.

Here are some sharing points i got from the lecture on 22 January 2010. Lecturer was Sheikh Ustaz Hafidz As-Suhaimi. I was late for the class due to some other commitments, but nevertheless gotten some points and feel pleased to share insha'Allah.

1) There are reasons why some things are made haraam for us. For example, drinking alcohol. In Islam, it is totally forbidden for us to intentionally drink alcohol be it a little or alot. The disadvantages are many. As we can see nowadays, there are many troubles arising from the drinking of alcohol. The worst scenarios include raping and killing innocent people. That is what happens when one drinks alcohol and loses his state of mind. All haraam things have some advantages but its only one or two as compared to the long list of disadvantages it has upon us.

2) For those things forbidden in Islam, there are in some cases exceptions. For example, when in a dire situation (darurat). This is when one is in an extreme state, and his/her life is put into danger. A possible scenario could be, lost in a desert without water. That person may be dying of thirst but the only form of liquid he can find is alcohol. Thus, he is allowed for that moment to drink alcohol with an intention to save his own life. However, he must not continue drinking to the state of being drunk. Or he is going to die because he is hungry. The only food he can find is a pig. Thus for that moment, he can eat the pig but not to the extent of enjoying.

3) In those dire situations however, one cannot eat his own muslim friend. For example, if one companion dies in a group who are experiencing extreme situations, he cannot eat his muslim friend’s corpse. This is because we are taught to show respect to our muslim brothers and sisters.

A man came to Abu Darda while he was in Damascus. Abu Darda asked him, "What has brought you here, my brother?" He replied, "A hadith which you relate from the Prophet SAW."

Abu Darda asked, "Have you come for some worldly need?" He replied,"No."

"Have you come for business?" He replied,"No."

"Have you come only to seek this hadith?" He said,"Yes."

Abu Darda then said, "I heard the Messenger of Allah SAW say:

"Whoever travels a path seeking sacred knowledge, Allah will place him on a path leading to Paradise. The angels lower their wings for the student of sacred knowledge, pleased with what he is doing. The creatures in the heavens and earth seek forgiveness for the student of sacred knowledge, even the fish in the water. The superiority of the religious scholar over the devout worshipper is like the superiority of the full moon over the other heavenly bodies. The religious scholars are the heirs of the prophets. The prophets leave no money as a bequest, rather they leave knowledge. Whoever seizes it has taken a bountiful share." "

From here, may Allah open up our hearts like those awliya and knowledgeable scholars who have no fear abt the world issues. Insya'Allah, may we see how important knowledge is now.

Nowadays, its common for people to have a liking for those sweet, short and nice wisdom-filled phrases or sayings. Well, if only they turned to the ones that bring them closer to Allah, insya'Allah may He bring us closer to Him. Ameen.

One day, Fatimah ( Rasulullah's daughter) served sweet honey in a beautiful bowl to Rasulullah SAW and his four close friends, Abu Bakar, Umar, Uthman and Ali. A strand of hair was accidentaly dropped in the bowl. Rasulullah SAW proposed to his friends to make comparison based on the beautiful bowl, sweet honey and a strand of hair. So, each of them came up with the comparisons.

Abu Bakar : Faith is more beautiful than the beautiful bowl, those who are faithfuls are sweeter than the sweet honey and to keep the faith is far more difficult than to cross over a strand of hair.

Umar : Government is more beautiful than the beautiful bowl, the Ruler is sweeter than the sweet honey and to govern with fair and justice is far more difficult than to cross over a strand of hair.

Uthman : Knowledge is more beautiful than the beautiful bowl, knowledge seekers are sweeter than the sweet honey and to practice the knowledge is far more difficult than to cross over a strand of hair.

Ali : Guest is more beautiful than the beautiful bowl, welcoming the guest is sweeter than the sweet honey and to satisfy the guest through out the stay is far more difficult than to cross over a strand of hair.

Fatimah : Muslimah is more beautiful than the beautiful bowl, Muslimah with hijab and purdah is sweeter than the sweet honey, to get the real Muslimah is far more difficult than to cross over a strand of hair.

Rasulullah SAW : Those who gain guidance from Allah is more beautiful than the beautiful bowl, those who practice the good deeds is sweeter than the sweet honey and sincerity in the practice is far more difficult than to cross over a strand of hair.

Jibrail : To construct and strenghten the pillars of religion is more beautiful than the beautiful bowl, to surrender oneself, wealth and time towards the religion is sweeter than the sweet honey and to sustain it till death is far more difficult than to cross over a strand of hair.

Allah SWT : Paradise is more beautiful than the beautiful bowl, bliss in Paradise is sweeter than the sweet honey and the pathway to the Paradise is far more difficult than to cross over a strand of hair.

Assalamualaikum / Greetings dear readers.

Just wanna share some random things i've learnt yesterday night insya'Allah.

1) We know abt angels or malaikat. Yes their iman is constant are they are like perfect coz they do not do any sins or any bad deeds. But it stops there. Its constant, wont go down or even up. Their iman stays where it is. However, all species other than human are made for the latter. Even the malaikat. The thing we forget is that, we can be worse than them, as in our belief is not strong and we can fall back behind them in terms of iman and darjat in the eyes of Allah. But what many people do not know is that, we can exceed them as well. Meaning we can be as good as angels, or even much better than them. If Allah wills. That is why human beings are special.

2) One reason for us to have the ability to overtake the malaikat in terms of iman is our effort. Allah sends down trials and tests for us in our life not without a purpose. We often pray to keep away from bad deeds such as pride, stingy, stubborn, always wanting praises from others and doing things to satisfy the nafsu. However, that is where the blessing in disguise is. When we are faced with those challenges, it is our iman which will determine whether we can overcome them and go up step higher in reaching to Allah SWT. Without those trials, we cannot elevate. Getting a place in Jannah is not cheap. Its the same as trying to get a high salary pay job. We have to work hard first to get a good education and equip ourselves with skills before we deserve a good job. People who claim that they do not face those trials, are either lying or they are dead spiritually. Because without these tests, we cannot increase our belief towards Allah SWT and that is something wrong.

3) People who place the Quran in front of them now; the Quran will place them in front on Judgement Day. Meaning, if we hold on the Quran, read it and not put it aside now, then the Quran will give us its aid during Qiyamah. Quran is not a book. They are the Words of Allah. Words in this context is not just something that comes out from the mouth and reach our ears before it just disappear. They have been a story about a man who had just passed away and was being carried to his graveyard. On the way, he saw a bright shining man and that man claimed himself to be the Quran who will help him in the graveyard because in his lifetime, he like to read the Quran. Thus we cannot leave the Quran behind but read it constantly. Quran also draws us towards a conversation with Allah SWT. There are many verses which strikes a direct conversation with Allah, such as verses where we pray and ask Allah for something we want. Thus all these will further bring us nearer to Allah SWT, insya'Allah.

Knowledge. The higher the amount of knowledge we acquire, the more humble we become. Not the higher we put our heads up high and be a proud slave.

When we get to learn something, that is information. But when we learn something and apply it, that's called knowledge. In Islam, we must believe that all good knowledge comes from Allah SWT and all bad things come from our weakness and syaithan. We must admit that we are nothing without Allah. We need Allah because He is our Master. We are His slaves. When we learn something good, we praise Him. Alhamdulillah. Without knowledge, we really are nothing. We dont have a motive in our life.

Allah chose us as the best of all creatures He ever made. Because we have brains to think. We have been granted that ability to acquire knowledge through which, will enable us to know Allah better and with much deeper understanding. To be able to understand what is around us. To be able to believe in Allah's words in Quran. To be able to take whatever He commands us to do and whatever Rasulullah SAW has taught into our daily lives and make it a way of life. To pray only to Allah.

Without knowledge, we are the least appreciated human beings on earth. That is why knowledge is an important aspect in Islam. Allah emphasised this too. Through it, we will learn what's right and wrong, what is good and what is bad. To look deeper inside and not only touch the surface.

We do not acquire knowledge to be boastful or to get praise from others. That will not make us a good muslim. This will contradict what we read everyday in a verse of Al-Fatihah which means, guide us to the True Path. We cannot be on that path if we do not put in effort. Thus, we have to stay away from all feelings of being boastful, vain and ego. Nauzubillah. These are the works of syaithan.

Insya'Allah, let us pray to Allah SWT so that He will open up our hearts, spread the Light in it, and open up our mind and fill it in with Perfect Knowledge. Ameen.

Assalamualaikum / Greetings dear readers. I would like to share a story obtained from an ipod touch application named mbook pack. Insya'Allah

One day, Rasulullah S.A.W entered to visit his daughter Fathimah R.Ha. He found his daughter grinding syair wheat with a hand grinder made of stone. Rasulullah S.A.W asked his daughter, "What makes you cry Fathimah? I hope Allah S.W.T does not make you cry."
Fathimah said, "This grinder and all household affairs are the ones that make me cry"
Rasulullah sat beside his daughter, while Fathimah continued, "Father, can you asked my husband to go find a helper to complete the wheat grinding and other household chores?" Hearing his daughter's request, Rasulullah rose, took a few strands of syair wheat with his blessed and noble hands, and put them in the grinder while saying, "Bismillahirrahmanirrahim" (In the name of Allah the compassionate and giving). With persmission from Allah S.W.T the grinder moved by itself, and continued grinding the wheat strand by strand. Rasulullah praised to Allah in many different languages until all the wheat grain was completely ground.

Rasulullah S.A.W said to the grinder, "By Allah's permission, you can stop grinding"
Allah S.W.T permitted the grinder to speak fluently in Arabic, and it said, "Dear Rasul, by Allah who created you with all truth as His envoys and prophet, if you asked me to grind from Masyriq to Maghrib (dusk to dawn), so I will. I have read Allah's revelation that said:
'Hey faithful ones, protect yourselves and your families from fiery hell whose fuel was made of humans and stones, whose guards are rough angels who are disciplined and obey His every command'
Therefore I fear that I will become one of the stones in hell"
Rasulullah S.A.W then said to the grinder, "Be joyful, as you will be one of the stones that decorate Fathimah's throne in heaven." The grinder was very happy, as it quit his task.

Rasulullah S.A.W enlightened his daughter, "If Allah wishes, the grinder will do the task for you, but Allah wants some of your good deeds to be written, and some of your mistakes to be redeemed. Dear Fathimah, any woman who grinds wheat to flour for her husband and children, Allah S.W.T promises her to have every grain worth one degree of increase in her goodness."

Dear Fathimah, any woman who sweats by grinding the wheat for her husband, Allah S.W.T will put seven trenches between her and the hell. Dear Fathimah, any woman who tends and puts clothes to her children will have rewards equal to feeding a thousand of starving people, and dressing a thousand naked people. Dear Fathimah, any woman who obstructs the needs of her neighbors will be prevented from drinking from the lake Kautsar.

Dear Fathimah, more importantly is your husband's contentment, for he will not pray for you if he is not pleased. Know the fact that husband's contentment is Allah's, and husbands rage is also Allah's. Dear Fathimah, if a woman is pregnant, angels will istighfar (ask forgiveness) for the unborn, Allah will note down a thousand of goodness, and erase a thousand of mistakes. When she suffers during labor, Allah S.W.T notes down rewards of those who fight in Allah's way (jihad). When she gives birth, her sins will be erased as clean as the day she was born. Should she die during labor, she will be cleaned of her sins, and her grave will be a garden of the gardens of Eden, and Allah S.W.T will bestow upon her rewards of a thousand hajj pilgrimages and a thousand of Umrah's, and the a thousand angels will ask for forgiveness for her (istighfar) every single day until the end of time.

Any woman who duly serves her husband faithfully and unconditionally, Allah will forgive all her sins, put green dresses and reward a thousand rewards for every strand of hair in her body, and Allah will bestow upon her rewards of one thousand hajj pilgrimages and a thousand of Umrah's. Dear Fathimah, any woman who smiles for her husband, Allah S.W.T will look upon her with blessings. Dear Fathimah, any woman who provides comfort, or beautify the house, the angels will shout, "Continue your kindness, and Allah forgives some of your previous sins, and some of your future sins." Dear Fathimah, any woman who grooms her husband, trimming his hair, moustache and beard, and clipping his fingernails, Allah will allow her to drink from the rivers of heaven. Allah S.W.T will also relieve her dying (sakratul maut), and make her grave as garden from the gardens of Eden, save her from fiery hell, and save her from the Shirat bridge (crossing of hell).

The topic is more focussed for women in islam. I have to admit my weakness which is i do not have good knowledge for topics more focussed on muslim women. But insya'Allah, whatever i have or come across, i try to share so that we all get benefit from it, even though it may just be a bit. Insya'Allah;

The Hijab:

"Why do Muslim women have to cover their heads?" This question is one which is asked by Muslim and non-Muslim alike. For many women it is the truest test of being a Muslim.

The answer to the question is very simple - Muslim women observe HIJAB (covering the head and the body) because Allah has told them to do so.

"O Prophet, tell your wives and daughters and the believing women to draw their outer garments around them (when they go out or are among men). That is better in order that they may be known (to be Muslims) and not annoyed..." (Qur'an 33:59)

Other secondary reasons include the requirement for modesty in both men and women. Both will then be evaluated for intelligence and skills instead of looks and sexuality. An Iranian school girl is quoted as saying, "We want to stop men from treating us like sex objects, as they have always done. We want them to ignore our appearance and to be attentive to our personalities and mind. We want them to take us seriously and treat us as equals and not just chase us around for our bodies and physical looks."

A Muslim woman who covers her head is making a statement about her identity. Anyone who sees her will know that she is a Muslim and has a good moral character. Many Muslim women who cover are filled with dignity and self esteem; they are pleased to be identified as a Muslim woman. As a chaste, modest, pure woman, she does not want her sexuality to enter into interactions with men in the smallest degree. A woman who covers herself is concealing her sexuality but allowing her femininity to be brought out.

The question of hijab for Muslim women has been a controversy for centuries and will probably continue for many more. Some learned people do not consider the subject open to discussion and consider that covering the face is required, while a majority are of the opinion that it is not required. A middle line position is taken by some who claim that the instructions are vague and open to individual discretion depending on the situation. The wives of the Prophet (S) were required to cover their faces so that men would not think of them in sexual terms since they were the "Mothers of the Believers," but this requirement was not extended to other women.

The word "hijab" comes from the Arabic word "hajaba" meaning to hide from view or conceal. In the present time, the context of hijab is the modest covering of a Muslim woman. The question now is what is the extent of the covering?

The Qur'an says: "Say to the believing man that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty; that will make for greater purity for them; and Allah is well acquainted with all that they do.

"And say to the believing women that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty; and that they should not display their beauty and ornaments except what must ordinarily appear thereof; that they should draw their veils over their bosoms and not display their beauty except to their husbands..." (Qur'an 24:30-31)

These verses from the Qur'an contain two main injunctions: (1) A woman should not show her beauty or adornments except what appears by uncontrolled factors such as the wind blowing her clothes, and (2) the head covers should be drawn so as to cover the hair, the neck and the bosom.

Islam has no fixed standard as to the style of dress or type of clothing that Muslims must wear. However, some requirements must be met. The first of these requirements is the parts of the body which must be covered.

Islam has two sources for guidance and rulings: first, the Qur'an, the revealed word of Allah and secondly, the Hadith or the traditions of the Prophet Muhammad (S) who was chosen by Allah to be the role model for mankind. The following is a Tradition of the Prophet:

"Ayesha (R) reported that Asmaa the daughter of Abu Bakr (R) came to the Messenger of Allah (S) while wearing thin clothing. He approached her and said: 'O Asmaa! When a girl reaches the menstrual age, it is not proper that anything should remain exposed except this and this. He pointed to the face and hands." (Abu Dawood)

The second requirement is looseness. The clothing must be loose enough so as not to describe the shape of the woman's body. One desirable way to hide the shape of the body is to wear a cloak over other clothes. However, if the clothing is loose enough, an outer garment is not necessary.

Thickness is the third requirement. The clothing must be thick enough so as not to show the color of the skin it covers or the shape of the body. The Prophet Muhammad (S) stated that in later generations of his ummah there would be "women who would be dressed but naked and on top of their heads (what looks like) camel humps. Curse them for they are truly cursed." (Muslim)

Another requirement is an over-all dignified appearance. The clothing should not attract men's attention to the woman. It should not be shiny and flashy so that everyone notices the dress and the woman.

In addition there are other requirements:

(1) Women must not dress so as to appear as men. "Ibn Abbas narrated: 'The Prophet (S) cursed the men who appear like women and the women who appear like men.'" (Bukhari)

(2) Women should not dress in a way similar to the unbelievers.

(3) The clothing should be modest, not excessively fancy and also not excessively ragged to gain others admiration or sympathy.

Often forgotten is the fact that modern Western dress is a new invention. Looking at the clothing of women as recently as seventy years ago, we see clothing similar to hijab. These active and hard-working women of the West were not inhibited by their clothing which consisted of long, full dresses and various types of head covering. Muslim women who wear hijab do not find it impractical or interfering with their activities in all levels and walks of life.

Hijab is not merely a covering dress but more importantly, it is behavior, manners, speech and appearance in public. Dress is only one facet of the total being.

The basic requirement of the Muslim woman's dress apply to the Muslim man's clothing with the difference being mainly in degree. Modesty requires that the area between the navel and the knee be covered in front of all people except the wife. The clothing of men should not be like the dress of women, nor should it be tight or provocative. A Muslim should dress to show his identity as a Muslim. Men are not allowed to wear gold or silk. However, both are allowed for women.

For both men and women, clothing requirements are not meant to be a restriction but rather a way in which society will function in a proper, Islamic manner.

Insya'Allah this post will be based a bit on my understanding and what i've been able to recollect so far. I try my best not to write posts on my own recount but there's some things i would really like to share.

This world is full of dunya rather than akhirat. The temptations in this world are many. But Islam has been brought down to us, not for the sake of pride, but to understand and venture deep into the knowledge that holds within and truly seek and realise that what pleasures Allah SWT will in turn give us pleasure too, with a great load of patience as well.

In surah Al-Fatihah, we seek and beg Allah to put us on sirat Al-Mustaqim, the Straight Path. This is the true path, the one and only that Allah truly blesses. There are many other paths out there which Allah may give permission for us to be on it, but it doesn't mean Allah blesses us in that path. Slowly, i've began realising that this path is like a river with many channels. All these channels finally come together into one stream, to the Divine Truth.

We are muslims, but if it is really no point if we keep wandering around in circles, not making any sense or getting satisfaction and understanding what we have been doing for the past years of our lives. Islam is the only religion, and there has to be something really special about it. For those who think deeply, there is no sense if we follow Allah's words without understanding what is the moral behind it. We may pray our fardhu solaat in the mosque for all 5 times in a day, but if we do not learn or extract the fruit of it, we can still consider ourselves going round in circles, not elevating to the next level.

For myself i realised that for the past years, i thought learning alone puts me on the path. Getting the basics and fundementals plus trying my best to do what pleasures Allah and leaving behind what He hates. But i was still unclear of what was ahead of me. I can't see the end destination i was heading to. Worse still, along the way, i could not see any signboards or landmarks which was indicating to me that i was indeed on the right path.

Then i was being introduced to tabligh. There were good, holding on to Rasulullah SAW's sunnah a lot and devoting a lot of own time to religion and bringing in people and uniting Islam from neighbourhood level to globally. With them, Allah has showed me certain strengths within myself but there was still an emptiness inside of me. Although following Rasulullah SAW closely in his sunnah and practices, something inside me wonders truly; Who is Rasulullah SAW? How can i get to know Allah better? Do i really know who i am in the first place?

That was when Allah showed me the path of tariqah; Aurad Muhammadiyyah. To me, this is something which i have been seeking for truly. It is with this that i saw where i was heading to, with landmarks and signboards along the way. Not only that, this is the river, leading straight towards Divine Truth. We have to realise how low we stand in front of Allah SWT and that we cannot reach Him just like that. We need a Syeikh, a teacher who is given the "license" and responsibility to guide us. Because Rasulullah SAW is near to Allah, the wali and auliya and his respectable descendants are close to him. So if we are close to them, we go closer to Allah SWT insya'Allah.

It is with this tariqah that i have been granted permission by Allah SWT to see what I am created for, how all other knowledge comes into place with Allah's words and promises, how much Rasulullah SAW really cares for his ummah, and abilities normal people think is impossible to acquire and calls him shirk or black magic users; but Allah is the Most Powerful and if He wishes for someone to have it, he will have it.

Trials and tests come in their heaviest and most challenging form. It is thus easy to fall if we're not strong. But help comes in really unexpected ways. And all those help will give you back inspiration and revitalise yourself, just when you thought all hope is gone.

I've only been with this tariqah for 6 months now, and i have a lot more to learn. This is what i wanted to share for today insya'Allah. This is totally my point of view and i do not intend to start a debate. I beg Allah to forgive me for my lack of knowledge while writing this post.

May Allah SWT give us permission to hold on to the truthful path till the end of our lives, and to obtain more knowlegde with as much ikhlas to reach the destination where Allah wants us all to be. insya'Allah ameen.

Allah (swt) gave us endlessly favours and blessings that we can't even count. Thanks to them we live happily; without them we would have perished instantly. And even if we spend all our lives for praising Allah just for one single blessing, we wouldn't be able to thank Allah properly.

Our health is the most important favour and one of the greatest blessings of Allah on us. This body of ours is a great and superb creature. There are many organs inside and outside of our body - billions of cells and tissues, extremely well-ordered systems and mechanisms, continuous and orderly functions and progresses, biological phenomena and activities that repeat themselves continually in perfect order, our mysterious and marvelous brain, tireless heart, fine nervous system, circulatory systems, physics laboratory lungs, chemical factory liver, kidneys that contain millions of filters, bone structure that is an engineering marvel, layers of assorted muscles that cover all these, skin, eyes to see, ears to hear, nose to smell, sweet speaking tongue, organs to produce new generations, endless mind, limitless and countless senses, wonderful system of reflection, discovery, inventions, arts....

How come all these go like clockwork and their harmony doesn't become depraved, nothing goes wrong; and how come we stay healthy for many years without having a breakdown? How come an extensiveness, vastness, deepness, abundance, intricacy, complexity, interdependence, partnerships and togetherness of this magnitude lasts for life in a perfect manner? Because of these difficult conditions, misfortune, breakdowns, and sickness should be ordinary happenings and expected to happen any moment. But it's not so!

Health is a very amazing state, an extraordinary miracle! We personally have nothing at all; there is absolutely someone who is guarding and taking care of us. Every single moment we exist and live with the help of the Almighty and Absolutely-Wise Allah - every single moment we are repaired and re-created, until such time as He wishes....

But there is also death beside life, and sickness beside health. There IS! Because it is necessary and full of wisdom! Sickness is the messenger of death, and the reminder and denouncer of the Hereafter! What would have happened to the world if death never existed? Death is a discharge, a salvation; a new and different birth; the end of the longing and meeting again the Beloved....

Health is a blessing, sickness is an examination. It is necessary to praise Allah for the blessings, and to show endurance during examinations.

Many people don't know but sickness is a blessing according to Islam for the faithful servant, for a patient and well-behaved Muslim who doesn't flare up or rebel, and for those adept and graceful servants who know that sickness comes from Allah, and who don't oppose the destiny or complain.

There are many rewards and recompenses for the sick, their sufferings are compensated with spiritual honour and gifts. Our Prophet Muhammad Mustafa (s.a.w.) said:

The sick person's sleep is considered as worship and his moaning as litany of praise to Allah. He is rewarded as though he is performing his usual prayers when he was healthy although he is unable to do so now. His supplications are accepted, his sins are forgiven, all his mistakes and wrong-doings recorded in his book are deleted, and he is told `Very well, start your new life with an absolutely clean book!'

Sickness wakes people up from heedlessness, guides them to give up their sins, makes them think about the Hereafter, leads them to pious foundations; makes them more thankful to Allah, and teaches them the necessity of taking better care of their health and making better use of their life - something they didn't realize before, teaches them to understand other sick and pained people better, to feel sorry for them and to help them; and rises their ranks and degrees higher in the Hereafter.

I wish you all good health, truth, happiness, and peace in religion, in this world and the Hereafter; quick recovery for my sick and pained brethren from Almighty Allah, and wish them to have brave endurance and bountiful rewards.

May Allah bless my loyal, faithful, compassionate, self-sacrificing brethren in the medical profession who dedicated their lives to the ideal of seeking remedy for the pain of those in suffering, and give them high material and spiritual ranks and degrees, great earthly and spiritual rewards, and increase their numbers, and make them victorious and superior over the non-believers and the unjust.

Syahadah

Assalamualaikum / Greetings dear readers.

LAA ILAA HA IL-LALLAH MUHAMMADUR RASULULLAH

The above is the syahadah of a true muslim. We are muslims, but trials in life shakes ourselves, both externally and internally. Till we neglect, syaithan will keep piercing through every part of our body.

The syahadah is something that we can say very easily. But to fully understand the true meaning when the syahadah comes out from someone's mouth is not easy. Anyone today can SAY the syahadah. Muslims. Jews. Christians. Anyone. Because the perception today is that saying the syahadah ends just there.

Bring ourselves back to Rasulullah SAW's time. Abu Jahal was one of the strongest and most bitter enemy to Islam. Why did he refuse to say the syahadah? He can just say it like how many people can today. But he understands that by saying it, he is actually undertaking an oath. That he witnesses that there is truly no God but Allah, and Muhammad SAW is His messenger. And he admits that he is Allah's servant, and without His will, he will not be around. Also, Abu Jahal understands that if he says the syahadah, his status will drop down to earth and all his wealth is gone. His pride will be lost.

That is the true meaning of the syahadah. So much meaning for just a short phrase which many of us take for granted. So saying the syahadah = admitting and taking an oath in it. Something that one will hold on to till the end of his/her life. Something that one will come back to if he/she has done a lot of sins. Something that a true servant will return to eventually even if he/she had been idling for as long as he/she could recall. All around us are not only normal human beings or other creatures. The world unseen to our eyes reveal something much more greater and astonishing. Malaikat on our right and left shoulder, our good and bad deeds floating around ourselves.

Insya'Allah, the next time we say the syahadah or even anything, the unseen world is witnessing us too. And these witnesses will come forward on Judgement Day and admit to whatever they hear or see about us. May Allah bless us all. And may we be able to constantly give salaam to Rasulullah SAW, who will give syafaat to his ummah on that day. Ameen.

Chapter 42: PROHIBITION OF THE KILLING OF AN INFIDEL AFTER HE
SAYS:" THERE IS NO GOD BUT ALLAH"

Bk 1, Number 0173:

It is narrated on the authority of Miqdad b. Aswad that he
said. Messenger of Allah, you just see (here is a point): If I
encountered a person amongst the infidels (in the battlefield)
and he attacked me and struck me and cut off one of my hands
with the sword. Then he (in order to protect himself from me)
took shelter of a tree and said: I become Muslim for Allah's
sake. Messenger of Allah, can I kill him after he had uttered
this? The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) said: Do
not kill him. I (the narrator) said: Messenger of Allah, he
cut off my hand and uttered this after amputating it; should I
then kill him? The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him)
said: Don't kill him, for I you kill him, verily he would be
in a position where you had been before killing him and verily
you would be in a position where he had been before uttering
(kalima).

Why do we follow Allah's orders? Why do we pray, pay zakaat, fast and so on?

Yes its an order but why do we have to do it? Its not as simple as it seems. Because we need to know ourself and realise who we are first before we truly appreciate the reason behind this.

Imagine we are in army now. The commander wants us to do pumping and so on. Why do we follow? Its because he is the commander and we are his followers or trainees. Our moves are subjected to his commands. That is why he punish us when we do not carry out what he wants us to do. To make us realise that we are in his command and we must obey him.

Same story between us and Allah. We are His servants. Laa hawla wa laa quwwata illa billah. We have no power at all (even to move a finger), because all power comes from the Most Powerful, Allah. Until we truly realise that we are His servants, we can never appreciate our status and never enjoy our worship to Him. We do what He wants us to do, and we do not go near to what He forbids us to.

But in this case, Allah doesnt punish us by making us do push-ups or run around many times. Because He is Ar-Rahman, Ar-Rahim. Most Gracious and Most Merciful. Whenever we do something wrong, He forgives us because His Love for us is 70 times more of a true motherly love. That is another reason why you see the non-believers still breathing on earth. If Allah wills, He could have wiped them off from Earth because they do not worship Him, the Almighty. But Allah is truly the Most Gracious, Most Merciful. Those two Names are the Greatest Names of Allah.

That is why we start everything with the Bismillah (in the name of Allah) and that two Names, Ar-Rahman and Ar-Rahim. Bismi-llahi ar-Rahmani ar-Rahimi

Lessons

Assalamualaikum / Greetings dear readers.

The following knowledge was what i managed to attain from my sheikh, Ustaz Hafidz As-Suhaimi, during ramadhan.

The first was about ikhlas. There was one incident involving Sayyidina Bilal. During his time, there was another muazzin. This muazzin had a much greater and better voice which was admired by many people at that time. It was so great to many ears that people recommended him to make adhan or the call to prayer inatead of Sayyidina Bilal. Soon, he himself went to Rasulullah SAW and asked him for permission to do the adhan for the fardhu solaat. Rasulullah SAW's response was something like "ok we'll see how it goes". This repeated for many times till the prophet SAW finally allowed him to make the adhan instead of Sayyidina Bilal for Subuh prayer, after alot of pleading was made.

So Rasulullah SAW and his ummah carried out the jemaah prayer for subuh. Soon after everyone completed the prayer, a voice came from the back, which was the voice of an angel or malaikat. "Oh ummah, have you carried out the subuh prayer already? Did you carry it out without making the adhan?"

From here, the lesson we can learn is that amal or deeds that we do will not be accepted by Allah SWT if it was not done with ikhlas. Ikhlas can be summed up as follows: a black ant on a big black stone at night. In simple terms, cannot be seen at all by others.

Another lesson i learnt from the class was about the specialty of sunnah fasting on thursday. The reason is because all our doings and deeds for the week will be carried by the angels and sent to Allah on every thursday. That is why thursday nights are spent in more devotion to Allah than any other nights. But this does not mean that other nights can be devoted to sins. Its just that thursday nights are a bit more special than other nights. Maulid are also carried out on thursday nights for some tareeqah.

Taraweeh Rakaats

Assalamualaikum / Greetings dear readers.

As requested by a brother, i have found the answer to his question.

His had doubts and wanted to clarify about the rakaats of the taraweeh prayers carried out in the holy month of Ramadhan. Whether or not 20 taraweeh rakaats or more are acceptable in Islam and not bid'ah. The answer came unexpectedly from the radio station, a daily tazkirah session just before the adhan for maghrib was sounded. Insya'Allah, we can take a valuable lesson with ourselves on this.

Rasulullah SAW first carried out taraweeh prayers for three consecutive days at the mosque. This managed to grab hold a good number of jamaah. However, on the fourth day, the prophet SAW was missing from isyak and only came back for jemaah prayers for Subuh. This was done because he was thoughtful for his ummah. He feared that it will be fard or wajib upon us all.

Back then, the prophet SAW carried out taraweeh prayers in this manner; 8 rakaats for taraweeh and 3 rakaats witr. However, in each rakaat, the number of ayats or verse read out was more than 100. This means, in 2 rakaats, he is most likely able to complete surah Al-Baqarah (open up the quran to see how long it is). It also means that it will take around at the very least 30 mins or average an hour plus to complete one rakaat.

Bear in mind that back then, the ummah had the prophet saw in their sight and having the Habibullah, the most beloved one to Allah, is an added boost to their imaan or faith.

When Rasulullah SAW had passed away, during the time of the caliph or khalifah saiyyidna Umar ibn Khattab r.a., he started to see that the elderly are starting to struggle to hold on to such long period of time for each rakaat. They even held on to their sticks (tongkat in malay) when praying. Thus, Saiyyidina Umar was the one who changed the taraweeh structure from 8 and 3 to 20 and 3. So that each rakaat had a shorter time span and the elderly can withstand better. This was in makkah. In madinah, the structure was 36 and 3 rakaats (rakaats are in taraweeh and witr order).

Note here that Saiyyidina Umar was the one who changed the stucture because he noticed that the taraweeh was getting "messy". Thus he came up with a solution to better the suit the ummah of Rasulullah SAW. This is due to the lack of our imaan or faith. The imaan or faith is strongest at the time when Rasulullah SAW was around but it doesnt mean that we cannot reach that status as well. But generally, our imaan or faith is weak now. So we can only withstand shorter time span for each rakaat now than it was before.

If there are still doubts, Saiyyidina Umar is one of the 10 Sahabas that are confirmed and guaranteed a place in Heaven or Jannah. Even when heaven or hell was put in front of their eyes, they still maintained that high imaan or faith that they have. Saiyyidina Umar was given the title Al-Faruq, the one who is truthful for he is very strict in the syaria'a of Islam. And if there were ever a prophet after Rasulullah SAW, he was appointed as that prophet (hadith). Who dares question his actions of changing that taraweeh structure?

Imaam Syafie, one of the four madhzab, winessed that mekkah carried out 20 taraweeh rakaats and 3 witr rakaats while madinah carried out 36 taraweeh rakaats and 3 witr rakaats. And he said nothing. Even the highly recognised imaams never question or comment anything about the change of structure of taraweeh. However, its always the generation that follows that will argue about things that have never been a problem at all. Also, taraweeh prayers are sunnah, not fardh or wajib upon us. So, it wouldn't be of any harm if we were to carry out as much prayers as possible, since they are many secrets and good rewards in it.

Insya'Allah, may we be rewarded for our good deeds. Ameen.

Assalamualaikum / Greetings dear readers.

This post takes on a more batin (underlying knowledge) side than a zahir (external knowledge) view.

Whatever written is based on explanations i get from people with knowledge and i regard highly of. Also from reliable sufi websites, eg naqshbandi sufi order.

The quran and hadith hold many knowledge. What we normally look at is the external part of it. Meaning, we read and we understand just from there and fullstop we carry on to the next ayat or next hadith. But, be aware that Allah has many secrets kept in all these, because all these came from the skies above and there is more than meets the eye.

The Prophet is reported to have said: “Prayer is the mi`raj or the ascension of the believer.”

How do we understand the above? Many of us will say its to indicate that in every prayer, we concentrate ourselves as if we're travelling up the seven layers of heaven to meet Allah SWT; or rather we pray as if Allah SWT is just in front of us.

But there are more secrets to this, and those secrets can only be passed to us if Allah SWT wills.

It is true that we pray as if Allah SWT is really in front of us. But not many of us know that the mi'raj carried out by Rasulullah SAW on that night, allowed him to meet Allah SWT without any veils. Meaning, "face to face". That means, in every prayer, we MUST be able to achieve that "face to face" contact with Allah SWT because Rasulullah SAW declares so. Who dares say that the prophet SAW is wrong?

This may be out of the world. Well, it is. Because in that hadith, Rasulullah SAW mentions ascension. Meaning, climbing upwards. We may be on a prayer mat on earth, say our bedroom. But when we stand in prayer, we're literally, not on earth. We are in a totally different realm, where our veils are taken away just for us to MEET ALLAH SWT in that "face to face" contact.

Mi'raj is also the journey of the prophet SAW going up from one heaven to another to the very top. Meaning, he climbed up the rank from the lowest heaven to the highest and above it. This, in deeper meaning, shows that when we pray, we CLIMB UP the ranks too. We evolve from one prayer to another prayer to a better person. And the ultimate that we can evolve to is? Rasulullah SAW.

There was a hadith i came across in which Rasulullah SAW is the best example to follow. If there is someone at work or in school who is very good, he/she will lead by example and surely the hardworking ones who want a success will follow the exact footsteps to achieve or BECOME like him/her. This is exactly what i mean by evolving. We want to BECOME like Rasulullah SAW, because he is the best example in all aspects. Therefore we climb up the ranks to become like him.

However readers, all these are not possible if we are doing this climbing ranks alone. Because our iman is weak, what more our spiritual guidance. That is when tariqah comes in, where the syakhs are rightfully from the prophet SAW's family tree and we are able to receive that spiritual guidance to be like him. Insya'Allah.

Assalamualaikum / Greetings dear readers.

Alhamdulillah we have been granted the chance to witness and be in the holy month of Ramadhan. Currently, I am blogging on the 6th Ramadhan yr 1430 hijriah. Maybe its a bit too late to start talking about the month of Ramadhan, but I feel its never to late as long as we're in it=)

Alhamdulillah, I have been able to pick up several learning points along the way by attending some lectures given by some dedicated ustaz(s) and through some self learning. Allah has allowed me to gain good knowledge of it, and I will share it today insya'Allah =)

Firstly, i just came across Islam.com and there is a tab link for "reward of fasting". I will copy paste the whole article here, may it be good information to all of us including me.

Every act of goodness is rewarded. Rewards are given based on the sincerity of the intention. Fasting is the only worship about which Allah has said that He Himself is the reward for it. This means that one develops such a close relationship with Allah that Allah Himself becomes the helper.

Abu Hurairah relates that the Holy Prophet, peace be upon him, said: "Allah, the Lord of Honor and glory says: All other deeds of man are for himself, but his fasting is purely for Me and I shall reward him for it. The fast is a shield. When any of you is fasting he should abstain from loose talk and noisy exchanges. Should anyone revile him or seek to pick a quarrel with him, he should respond with: I am observing a fast. By Him in Whose hands is the life of Muhammad, the breath of one who is fasting is purer in the sight of Allah than the fragrance of musk. One who fasts experiences two joys: he is joyful when he breaks his fast, and he is joyful by virtue of his fast when he meets his Lord" (Bukhari and Muslim).

Sa'ad ibn Sahl relates that the Holy Prophet, peace be upon him, said: "There is a gate of Paradise called Rayyan through which only those will enter on the Day of Judgment who are regular in observing the fast and no one else. A call will go forth: Where are those who observed the fast regularly? And they will step forth and no one beside them will enter through that gate. After they shall have entered, the gate will be closed and no one else will enter thereby" (Bokhari and Muslim).

Abu Sa'id Khudri relates that the Holy Prophet, peace be upon him, said: "When a servant of Allah observes the fast for a day for the sake of Allah, He thereby repels the Fire from him a distance of seventy years of journeying" (Bokhari and Muslim).

Abu Hurairah relates that the Holy Prophet, peace be upon him, said: "He who observes the fast during Ramadhan out of sincerity of faith and in hope of earning merit will have his past sins forgiven him" (Bokhari and Muslim).

Abu Hurairah relates that the Holy Prophet, peace be upon him, said: "When Ramadhan arrives the gates of Paradise are opened and the gates of hell are locked up and satans are put in chains" (Bokhari and Muslim).

Secondly, i would like to share some learning points I managed to captured from lectures by ustaz Jailaludin Hassan, ustaz Saripi Rawi and Ustaz al-hafiz Izal Mustafa Kamar:

By ustaz Jailaludin Hassan:
- three types of people who carry out fasting;
> People who only fast but they only look after their hunger and thirst. Other parts of the body are as if they are not fasting. Because they don't look after their eyes (looking at unlawful things), mouth (saying unneccesary/bad things), ears (choosing to listen to things that do not bring any benefit) etc
> People who are like the first type but they look after their other body parts as well. However, this is not the best yet.
> People who are fasting exactly like how Allah SWT wants us to fast. That is, like people type 2 but they do not think about food for break-fast. This is the true meaning of fasting, which is to feel exactly how the poor feels. They do not think of which food to eat, or rather they do not even have food. They take whatever that is given to them. To be amongst these people, a perfect example will be break-fasting at the mosques, where we do not know what food is there for us to eat. These people really fast for the sake of Allah SWT, and not for themselves.

By ustaz Saripi Rawi:
- human beings always forget about our origins. We may eventually become someone big, like imaam, doctor, lawyer, or anyone earning big bucks in life. but often we forget our origin, that is just a clot of blood. It is Allah SWT who lent us everything that we have now, like our body parts, our life, our money, our happiness etc. All these are from Allah so that we are thankful and constantly reminding ourselves of Him.
- another point which I feel has relation to this is by ustaz al-hafiz Abdul Aziz Md Yunus who mentioned that we dont have to be jealous of what the kafirs or non-believers have in wealth. because at the end of the day (literally), we mukmins and muslims have a higher status than them in the Eyes of Allah SWT

By Ustaz al-hafiz Izal Mustafa Kamar:
- every day of the Ramadhan is a chance for us to redeem ourselves for all the sins we have created since the day we're born. On Judgement Day, when we stand in front of Allah for the Ultimate Judgement, on our right stands a creature representing our good deeds and on the left stands a creature representing our sins. In the month of Ramadhan, there are three ways to get ourselves forgiven each day. So let's grab this chance insya'Allah:
> 100% full pure ikhlas fasting for the sake of Allah; if not 100%,
> Night prayers at 100% ikhlas (taraweh prayers and Qiyamullail) for the sake of Allah; it not 100%.
> Other good deeds that we do such as reading the holy Qur'an and giving zakaat or donation for the good of Islam or the needy

- the Lightest punishment on Judgement Day will be a man who will stand just next to Hell, not inside but just next to it. And his brains will be boiling.

Thirdly, some learning points I managed to pick up by myself, with Allah's permission.

- From the Quran, surah an-nisa' ayat 143 which means

"(They are) distracted in mind even in the midst of it (prayers),- being (sincerely) for neither one group nor for another whom Allah leaves straying,- never wilt thou find for him the way." translation by 'Abdullah Yusuf Ali

This ayat is describing the hypocrites who think they are over-reaching Allah, but little remembrance does he have for Him.

However, there's always an door open for repent. Ayat 146:

"Except for those who repent, mend (their lives) hold fast to Allah, and purify their religion as in Allah.s sight: if so they will be (numbered) with the believers. And soon will Allah grant to the believers a reward of immense value." translation by 'Abdullah Yusuf Ali

- From the Quran Surah al-Ma'idah, ayat 53 which means

"O ye who believe! take not for friends and protectors those who take your religion for a mockery or sport,- whether among those who received the Scripture before you, or among those who reject Faith; but fear ye Allah, if ye have faith (indeed). " translation by 'Abdullah Yusuf Ali

Nowadays, we see many mockery made at Islam, both from the unbelievers and sadly some of those who claim themselves muslims as well. What they are laughing at or making a fool of or taking lightly and not seriously, is something that is brought down from the seven layers of heavens down to earth. This religion is the only true one that brings us lucky human creatures to the right path and straight to Al-Jannah, the gardens of the heaven. It is not something to be played with, eg praying not 5 times a day and only when we feel like it. If we bear witness upon this religion, it means we have sworn to carry out responsibilities that Allah wants us to do. There is no alternative religion out there, this is what all human beings are created for; praying to Allah.

He (the reporter) said: I asked him what the next (gravest sin) was. He (the Holy Prophet) replied: That you kill your child out of fear that he shall join you in food. He (the reporter) said: I asked (him) what the next (gravest sin) was. He (the Holy Prophet) observed: Then (the next gravest sin) is that you commit adultery with the wife of your neighbour.

Post regarding death.

Imam Malik Ibn Anas saw the Death Angel in his sleep, and the Imam asked him: " How much left for me to live?". The Angel pointed to his five fingers. Then the Imam asked him: " Does that mean 5 years, or 5 months, or 5 days ?". Before the Imam had a chance to get an answer back, he woke up.

The Imam went to someone who would interpret dreams. That man told him: " Imam Malik, when the Angel pointed to his five fingers he didn't mean 5 years or months or days, but the Angel meant that your question ' how much left for me to live' is among 5 matters that only Allah (SWT) knows about, and he recited the following verse from the Qur,an which means:

"" Verily, with ALLAH alone is the knowledge of the Hour. And HE sends down the rain, and HE knows what is in the wombs. And no soul knows what it will earn tomorrow, and no soul knows in what land it will die. Surely, ALLAH is All-Knowing, All-Aware. "" 31:34

When Caliph Haroon Al-Rashid got very ill, illness that caused his death, he told his staff to go a head and dig his grave so he can see it before he dies. After the grave was prepared, he asked to be carried to the grave . Upon arrival, the Caliph Haroon looked down into the grave and then looked up toward the sky and said: " O' whom (Allah) his rule never ends, have mercy on whom (Haroon) his rule has ended.

One day the Prophet (pbuh) visited the Cemetery along with some of his followers, and he said to them: " I long for my beloved ones?". His followers said: " Aren't we your beloved ones O' messenger of Allah ". The Prophet (pbuh) said: " you are my companions ". Then they say: " who are your beloved ones?". The Prophet said: " People come after you believed in me without seeing me ". they asked: " How would you know them on Judgment day even though you haven't seen them O' messenger of Allah?". The Prophet said: " My followers are gathered ' Ghurr'an Muhajjalin ' ".

(( Gurr'an means light on the forehead, and Muhajjalin means light on the feet, and what brings about this light is the Ablution 'Wudu' ))

One day the Prophet (pbuh) went to a boy's funeral and he found his mother weeping and he asked: " why are you crying ". The mother said: " O' messenger of Allah, is my son in Heaven or Hell?". The prophet replied:" O' slave of Allah, He (Allah) knows his status better than I do ".

The Prophet said: " The Believer's Soul turns into a Bird in Paradise ". (( The above Hadith means, that upon the Believers death, his Soul becomes a bird in Paradise until the Resurrection day, when Allah (SWT) returns all souls to its original bodies ))

Ya'juj and Ma'juj ( GOG AND MAGOG )

Alhamdulillah, i have been given the ability by Allah today to update an entry to this blog. Absence of entries are due to my weaknesses. insya'Allah, may Allah give me and you readers enough strength to be more attracted to the Deen than anything else. Ameen.

So far currently, i have been able to listen to a lecture given by Ahmed Ali about gog and magog. I obtained this lecture for free in mp3 form from classicalislamgroup.com . Its a good website, should check it out. I would like to share with you readers about this, but i will copy paste from a website (http://www.central-mosque.com/signs/GogMagog.htm) as the contents are somewhat relatively familiar with that lecture. Also i dare not write since it contains several hadith and jahannam is the place for people who makes fitnah upon Rasulullah SAW's words.

Who are the Ya'jooj and Ma'jooj?

The Ya'jooj and Ma'jooj:

During the reign of Hadhrat Isa (A.S.) people will live an extremely peaceful life filled with prosperity and abundance. Then the wall which imprisons Ya'jooj and Ma'jooj will break and they will surge forth in large numbers.

"But when Ya'jooj and Ma'jooj are let loose and they rush headlong down every hill" (Quran 21:97)

Who are the Ya'jooj and Majooj?

Zul Qarnain (A.S.) who was a pious and just Ruler travelled to many lands and conquered them, establishing justice and the Law of Allah therein. Allah Ta'ala provided him with all forms and material strength through which he was able to carry out his conquests and missions.

He once carried out a mission in three directions, the far west, the far east, and then in a northerly direction. It was here that he came across a tribe of people who complained to him about the tribes of Ya'jooj and Majooj which inhabited the land behind two huge mountains and often emerged from behind these mountains to perpetrate acts of anarchy and plunder among them. They requested Zul Qarnain (A.S.) to erect a barrier between themselves and the tribes of Ya'jooj and Ma'jooj so that they could be saved from their atrocities. With the material strength at his disposal, Zul Qarnain (A.S.) enlisted their physical labor and set about erecting a high wall between the two mountains. The height of the wall or its exact length is unknown. What is known is that the height of this wall reaches that of the summit of both mountains. It is made with blocks or sheets of iron, which is further strengthened by molten lead. In this manner Ya'jooj and Majooj are unable to scale the wall, or cross it, except when it is the will of Allah.

"And when the promise of my Rabb approaces, He will level it to dust" (Quran 18:98)

They are situated in a land of ice which is hidden from our gazes and the exact location of which is unknown. Though many interpretations do exist in this respect, none of these can be said to absolute.

Ya'jooj and Majooj are human beings and according to a narration they are from the progeny of Yafith ibn Nooh (A.S.).

Some Ahadith:

In a lengthy hadith by Hadhrat Nawwas ibn Sam'aan (R.A.) Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) is reported to have said:

"...Allah will send revelation upon Eesa (A.S.) that 'Such a creation of mine is now going to emerge that no power will be able to stop them. Therefore take my servants and ascend the Mount of Toor.' Then Ya'jooj and Majooj will emerge and surge forth in all their fury. When those from among them who constitute the former part of their army pass the lake of Tiberias (which is in northern Palestine), they will drink up all the water of that lake and by the time those that constitute the latter part of that same army pass the lake, they will say, "There used to be water here (long ago). When they reach the Mount of Khamr in Jerusalem, they will arrogantly proclaim: 'We have conquered the people of the earth, now we will annihilate those in the sky.' So saying they will fire their arrows towards the sky. When the arrows return to the ground they will be blood stained.

In the meantime, Eesa (A.S.) will be on the Mount of Toor with his followers. At that time the head of and ox will be as valuable as is a hundred dinars to you in this day. [This indicates the scarcity of provisions]. Faced with these hardships, Eesa (A.S.) and his followers will make dua unto Allah (to remove this calamity). As a result, Allah will cause sores to appear on the necks of each and every individual of these people which will cause their death suddenly. When Eesa (A.S.) and his followers descend from the Mount of Toor there will not be a single space on the land where the dead rotting bodies of these people is not littered, giving off a horrendous odour. Eesa (A.S.) and his followers will once more supplicate unto Allah as a result of which Allah will send down huge birds whose necks will be as thick as that of the necks of camels, and they will dump these bodies in a place where Allah wills. (According to a narration by Tirmidhi, they will be dumped at a place called Nahbal).

Allah Ta'ala will then send down a heavy rain, the waters of which will flow in every part of the earth cleansing it thoroughly. It will rain for a period of forty days.

The Muslims will then burn the bows and arrows of the Ya'jooj and Ma'jooj for a period of seven years.

Allah will order the earth to yield forth its crops in abundance and there will be such blessing and prosperity that one pomegranate will be sufficient for a whole group while the peel thereof will suffice to cast a shadow over them. The milk of one camel will be sufficient for many groups while one milk giving cow will be sufficient for a whole tribe. One milk giving goat will be sufficent for a whole family..."

Hadhrat Abu Saeed Khudri (R.A.) narrates that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said:

"On the day of Qiyamah Allah will say to Adam (A.S.) to pick out the Jahannamis from his entire progeny. Adam (A.S.) will ask: 'O Rabb, who are they?'

Allah will say: 'Nine hundred and ninety nine of a thousand are Jahannami while the one is a Jannati.'

On hearing this the Sahaba were overtaken by fear and they asked "O Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam), who will that one Janniti be?'

Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said: 'Do not grieve, the nine hundred and ninety nine will be Ya'jooj and Ma'jooj while you will be the Jannati."' (i.e. your numbers in relation to them will be one in a thousand).

Hadhrat Abdullah ibn Umar (R.A.) says that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said:

"Allah Ta'ala divided mankind into ten parts. Nine tenths constitute Ya'jooj and Ma'jooj while the remaining tenths constitutues the rest of mankind."

Hadhrat Zainab bint Jahsh (R.A.) says: "...once Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wassallam) awoke from such a sleep that his face was red and these words were on his tongue: 'There is none worthy of worship except Allah. Destruction is upon the Arabs on account of the evil which has come close to them. Today a hole as big as this has opened up in the wall of Ya'jooj and Ma'jooj.' ..and Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) indicated the size of the hole forming a ring with his index finger and thumb."

(Bukhari and Muslim)

Hadhrat Abu Hurairah (R.A.) narrates that every day Ya'jooj and Ma'jooj break (dig) through the wall erected by Zul Qarnain (A.S.) until they reach the end of it to that extent that they can actually see the light on the other side. They then return (home) saying that 'We will break through tomorrow.' But Allah Ta'ala causes the wall to revert to its original thickness and the next day they start digging through the wall all over again, and this process continues each day until as long as Allah wills them to remain imprisoned. When Allah wishes them to be released, then at the end of the day they will say, "If Allah wills, tomorrow we will break through." The following day they will find the wall as they had left it the previous day (i.e. it will not have returned to its orginal state) and after breaking the remaining part of it they will emerge."

(Ahmad, Tirmidhi, Ibn Majah)

Commenting on the above hadith, Allamah Ibn Arabi says, Three miracles are evident in this Hadith:

1. It never occurs to these tribes that they must continue work during the night. After all, they are in such large numbers that they can easily delegate the work among themselves and work in shifts. But Allah does not allow this thought to occur to them.

2. It never occurs to them that they can merely cross the mountains or scale the wall, which they can do through the aid of equipment and implements wich they possess in large numbers. According to a narration by Wahab ibn Munabbah it is known that these tribes are agriculturists and artisians possessing various types of equipment.

3. The thought of saying "If Allah wills" never enters their minds and it will only occur to them to say it when Allah wills that they be released.

In addition to this, i came across a possibility that these tribes maybe from the mongols and manchurians. since they are very well-known to have a high killing and disturbance record in history.

SUBHANALLAH, by this we can witness the Power of Allah the Al-Mighty. Even in a gang fight, we onli face a very small number of people as compared to this disaster. Imagine 999 / 1000 people of mankind at that time are from the Ya'jooj and Majooj. We must return back to the right path as soon as possible insya'Allah.

Through this, i hope it has been a good lesson both for me and for you. We have to realise that we have no right to say that "we are not ready to be a muslim who is true to himself and Allah" because we do not know when we will leave this world. Worse still, we are living in a state of the world that is very much described as what Rasulullah SAW described as near Judgement Day. We have to start obeying Allah and leave whatever he has forbid us to do. We are made to worship him, not to create destruction in this world.

We say Allah, but what does the heart says?

Humaid, ‘Abdur−Razzaq and Ma’mar and Zuhri have narrated a hadith like this on the authority of the same chain of transmitters.

That is the charity of your person on your behalf.

A wise lady among them said: Why is it, Messenger of Allah, that our folk is in bulk in Hell? Upon this the Holy Prophet observed: You curse too much and are ungrateful to your spouses. I have seen none lacking in common sense and failing in religion but (at the same time) robbing the wisdom of the wise, besides you. Upon this the woman remarked: What is wrong with our common sense and with religion? He (the Holy Prophet) observed: Your lack of common sense (can be well judged from the fact) that the evidence of two women is equal to one man, that is a proof of the lack of common sense, and you spend some nights (and days) in which you do not offer prayer and in the month of Ramadan (during the days) you do not observe fast, that is a failing in religion. This hadith has been narrated on the authority of Abu Tahir with this chain of transmitters.

Some of My bondsmen entered the morning as My believers and some as unbelievers. He who said: We have had a rainfall due to the Blessing and Mercy of Allah, he is My believer and a disbeliever of stars, and who said: We have had a rainfall due to the rising of such and such (star) disbelieved Me and affirmed his faith in the stars.

Abu Bakr, radi Allahu anhu, sent four armies to fight the nemesis of Musaylimah AlKadhdhab, the liar who had claimed he was a Prophet and God’s Messenger. The armies contained the most senior of Sahabah and their slogan for the battle was, “Oh companions of Surat AlBaqarah!”

The battle raged on and the forces of Musaylimah AlKadhdhab were winning. The Sahabah could not lose; they would not lose. Ammar ibn Yasser, radi Allahu anhu, mounted a rock and called to all the Muslim fighters, “YAA HAMALAT ALQURAN!!” Oh carriers of the Quran!

He gathered a battalion of Sahabah that only consisted of the Huffadh. Every fighter at the side of Ammar ibn Yasser had memorized the Qur’an in his heart. The battle was won!

Back to today. Have you ever been in a Masjid with elder respected members of a community, but when Salah time comes, a young unassuming brother steps forward from amongst everyone and leads the congregation? Why was this young boy honored such? Someone whispers into your ear, “Oh, don’t you know? He memorized the Qur’an by heart.”

Umar bin Al-Khattab (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet (PBUH) said, “Verily, Allah elevates some people with this Qur’an and abases others.” [Muslim].

This article is meant [for] those who have taken their first steps, not those who are still waiting for motivation. It is dedicated to all our young brothers and sisters in Qur’an Hifdh schools (and all the wanna bes J). In sha Allah, I will discuss how you can become more effective in your memorization of the Qur’an.

Let me ask this question, “Who wants to memorize the Qur’an?” No doubt, the hands initially will rise slowly, but then almost everyone should have their hand raised. But, most truthfully, is that desire a sincere, heartfelt desire? If it was, then action would follow. If I said, “Who wants to lose weight?” Most people would raise their hands and upon being asked would mention the steps they are taking to achieve their goal. What steps are we taking to memorize the Qur’an if indeed our intentions are passionate?

I would like to tell you a story of my own. A few months ago, I was sitting in a Halal chicken restaurant in Canada. All of a sudden, one of my classmates from the Qur’an school I went to when I was young entered. We hugged each other and sat together reminiscing about our days in Qur’an school. I told him about Allah?s blessings upon me and my family. He said to me, “Muhammad, I swear by Allah, I still remember the day when you came to the school and you couldn’t read alif-baa-taa correctly!”

We attend school for about 13 years. Then another 4 or 6 or 10 years at a University. More then 15 years of our life in such a slow process. Why? Because, we see the benefit of education for prosperity on earth. Why then do we not see such a rush to memorize the book of Allah? Perhaps the benefits are not readily apparent. Consider the following:

While other children are playing games and eating bubble gum, your child could be memorizing thousands of pages from the book of Allah. How does this benefit them? Quite obviously, the child’s mind is trained at such a young age to absorb information and facts. When the child who memorized the Qur?an is put in a class with bubblegum chewing/Playstation absorbed children, there is little doubt who will be the head of the class. Isn’t this what every parent wants?

On the highway, it’s music and tv. Our golden generations were not golden because they watched tv and listened to music. They were golden because of their buzzing with the Qur’an.

When a young brother or sister is blessed with the gift of memorizing the entire Qur’an, it is a sign that Allah ta’ala loves them! Many humans chase after material wealth. They may achieve it, but that is not a sign that Allah loves them. Look at Fir’own, he had everything of the material world, but he was one of the most hated humans because of his actions.

Moses prayed: “Our Lord! Thou hast indeed bestowed on Pharaoh and his chiefs splendour and wealth in the life of the present, and so, Our Lord, they mislead (men) from Thy Path. Deface our Lord, the features of their wealth, and send hardness to their hearts, so they will not believe until they see the grievous penalty.” [Qur’an 10:88]

And more than material wealth, what humans really want in life is significance and contribution. No one wants to live their life without having done something for their Deen and the betterment of life on earth. We want to leave a legacy.

With that in mind, notice the life of a Haafidh. From a very young age, he or she is pushed into a position of leadership. Consider it a mere 10% shift in their path. In the beginning it seems like a little, but after 20 or 50 years, it becomes a different destiny.

Notice the young brothers that memorized the Qur’an in your community, they are already pushed to the front of the congregation by virtue of their accomplishment. They, at this early start, are forced to contribute to the community and live a life of significance. Bi idhnillah. That’s what we all want. The Qur’an can do it for you.

But these gifts have a condition: the taqwa of Allah. There is one absolute naseeha that will make or break the persons drive to memorize the Qur’an: One must desist from sin! Ibn Mas’ood said, “I feel that indeed someone will forget knowledge they had a acquired because of sins they commit.”

When Abu Haneefah, rahimahullah, was confronted with a Fiqh Mas’alah that he was unable to conclude, he would get up and pray two raka’at in tawbah to Allah. These are people who truly knew the prize to be won. Allah ta’ala teaches us in the Qur’an: [Be conscious of Allah and Allah will teach you.] This knowledge is from Allah ta’ala, a gift. It makes no sense that someone spends their nights disobeying the gift-giver while awaiting His gifts in the morning.

Al-Khateeb reported in al-Jaami (2/387) that Yahya ibn Yahya said: “A man asked Maalik ibn Anas, ‘O Abu Abd-Allaah! Is there anything that will improve my memory?’ Maalik ibn Anas, rahimahullah, replied, If anything will improve it, it is giving up sin.” Bishr Alhaafee, rahimahullah, said, “A servant commits a sin, and is deprived [thereby] of performing tahajjud.”

In this country, the wealthy are followed and studied. What are the secrets of massive accumulation of wealth? I wish someone would do a study on Huffadh. I’ve done my own surveying (albeit unscientific) of those who accomplished the memorization of the Qur’an. Every Hafidh I know has strong encouraging parents. I do not have any examples of anyone who memorized the Qur’an who has an irreligious family.

One parent I know has two and soon to be three, in sha Allah, of his children who memorized the Qur’an. I know you’re thinking, three! Hey share some of those kids with ours, that’s not fair. Well, I contemplated his situation. The father takes his children to class and at the same time, he tries his utmost to memorize the Qur’an himself. His children, day after day, see their father practicing his words. They don’t hear him say things like, “Hey kids, don’t be like me.” Absolutely not.

The key: if you want your children to be effective in their Deen and their memorization of Qur’an, YOU have to be the one that you want your children to become. Do not let them see a contradiction.

When I was young, I did not want to go to a Qur’an school. Subhan Allah. I went to that Qur’an school, I went to Madinah University and here I am today. I recently received a beautiful email after giving a lecture to the Canadian Hujjaj, my father’s group. While I spoke, my father had his head up high, smiling and crying during the speech. The brother wrote in his email that he was watching my father during the lecture. It dawned on him that Muhammad is here today giving this speech because of the dua of this man! I hadn?t contemplated it much until I read that email, for indeed it is correct. After the tawfeeq of Allah, it was the dua of my parents for me that helped me become who I am.

Ibn ‘Abbas (May Allah be pleased with them) reported: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, “The heart that has no Qur’an in it is like an abandoned ruined dwelling.” [At-Tirmidhi]. What kind of home would you like your heart to dwell in? excusitis, is a most powerful sickness that keeps people back from accomplishing in life. Excuse-itis. If you interview effective people, you will rarely find them making excuses. If you want to succeed in your memorization, never make excuses. Do what you have to do. I forbid those around me from making excuses. I advise the same for you. Do what you have to do to accomplish. If you cannot, then do not make excuses.

One of the interesting excuses is “I have to completely understand the Qur”an before I memorize it. I have to know Arabic, and Fiqh and Hadith before I start from the source.” Do not look at what a scholar is currently reading or studying. Look at what he did in the beginning. Every single scholar I have ever met started with Qur’an, nothing else. If you want to accumulate massive knowledge of this Deen, you must begin with memorization of the Qur’an. The children in the Hifdh school are well on their way to accomplishing massive accumulation of knowledge of this deen by virtue of their Hifdh. Bi idhnillah.

Let me give you two views by two very different people and how they look at the challenges of life:

Person 1: “Oh man, that’s a killer. I can’t do that. This time I just give up. Looks like I’m finally whipped. I’ll never amount to anything. I’m tired.” Person 2: “Awesome, that was the kind of challenge I’ve been waiting for. Yaa Rabb, I am going to make you proud of me. I’m going to give it my best. I’m going to pump 110% of my energy into every part of this challenge!”

Guess which one will succeed in their memorization of the Qur’an. That’s right, the second one. Why? Because the second one has the right attitude.

When I hear someone talking about their attempts to memorize Qur’an, I can usually tell which category they have locked themselves into. It is not the Qur’an. The Qur’an is easy to remember. Allah ta?ala testifies to that in the Qur’an: [And verily we made the Qur’an easy to remember, so is there anyone who will take heed?] If you think it’s easy for you, it is. If you think it is hard for you, it is. It is your attitude that determines it.

Below are some quick tips that will help you in memorizing the Qur’an:

1. You absolutely must have a teacher. Do NOT memorize on your own. You must have a teacher who you respect and whom you fear. Don’t ask ‘how’ to memorize the Qur’an. Ask where you can find the best teacher. The teacher will then guide you on the ‘how’.

2. Distractions. In memorizing the Qur’an, you must free your mind and environment of distractions. Imagine trying to memorize at a football game? Tough, huh? How about a theme park, could you sit down and control yourself to memorize? Probably not. Getting into a Qur’an Hifdh program with a teacher and discipline will assist you in creating the perfect atmosphere for memorization.

3. Memorize through Audio. A lot of people think they are memorizing the ‘look’ of the Mushaf, but actually you are memorizing the ’sound’ of Ayat. When I review, I record my recitation on CD and listen to it again and again. The students that read the loudest in class are all the strongest students. Why? Because they can hear themselves the most. When I was in Qur’an school, the boy beside me read so loud. I asked the teacher to ask him to read more quietly. He said a most powerful statement that became my motto: ‘No, you read louder!’ I did and it benefited me unbelievably.

4. Location of the Mushaf. Your eyes follow a specific direction depending on what you are thinking or doing. If you are lying, your eyes go left. If you are remembering something visual, like where you left your keys, your eyes will look upwards.When you memorize, the direction of memorization is right and left, not downwards. The mistake I see people make is that they put their mushaf low on the ground and then try to memorize. In order to fully harness the power of your mind, you must keep the mushaf at eye level, and not dip your head..

5. Eat brain food. We’ve all heard the advice of uncles that you have to eat Badams (almonds) to improve memory. Well, I’m here to tell you that the uncles were right! The food you eat, the drinks you drink, directly affect your ability to excel in memorization of the Qur’an.Do not eat fatty, unhealthy food. Do not drink soda. Eat a nutritious light breakfast, a nutritious light lunch, with almonds for snacks during the day. Subhan Allah, you will find you accomplish much more in your day.

6. Make everyday a victory. You can move a mountain rock by rock. Enjoy every page you memorize, every Ayah.
7.
I am often asked about my secret to memorizing the Qur’an. They are expecting me to teach them a special ’south-beach-hifdh-diet’ or something. (I call it tip shopping, they are expecting a specific tip). I say again and again, there is no doubt that there are three ingredients. If you have these three ingredients, you will accomplish what you set out for:

1. Dua, supplication (you must always reflect your desire to Allah).

2. Sabr, patience (it will be a testing path, fill your bags with Sabr powerbars).

3. Taqwa, protecting yourself from sin.

If you do not remember anything from this article except these three ingredients (DST ‘ Dua, Sabr, Taqwa - DST) then, bi idhnillah, it will suffice.

‘Abdullah bin ‘Amr bin Al-‘As (May Allah be pleased with them) reported: The Prophet (sal Allahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said, “The one who was devoted to the Qur’an will be told on the Day of Resurrection: ‘Recite and ascend (in ranks) as you used to recite when you were in the world. Your rank will be at the last Ayah you recite.”’ [Abu Dawud and At-Tirmidhi].

Why do we read Quran, even if we can’t understand a single Arabic word????
This is a beautiful story.

An old American Muslim lived on a farm in the mountains of eastern Kentucky
with his young grandson. Each morning Grandpa was up early sitting at the
kitchen table reading his Quran. His grandson wanted to be just like him and
tried to imitate him in every way he could.

One day the grandson asked, ‘Grandpa! I try to read the Quran just like you
but I don’t understand it, and what I do understand I forget as soon as I
close the book. What good does reading the Qur’an do?’

The Grandfather quietly turned from putting coal in the stove and replied,
’Take this coal basket down to the river and bring me back a basket of
water.’

The boy did as he was told, but all the water leaked out beforehe got back
to the house. The grandfather laughed and said, ‘You’ll have to move a
little faster next time,’ and sent him back to the river with the basket to
try again. This time the boy ran faster, but again the basket was empty
before he returned home. Out of breath, he told his grandfather that it was
impossible to carry water in a basket, and he went to get a bucket instead.

The old man said, ‘I don’t want a bucket of water; I want a basket of water.
You’re just not trying hard enough,’ and he went out the door to watch the
boy try again.

At this point, the boy knew it was impossible, but he wanted to show his
grandfather that even if he ran as fast as he could, the water would leak
out before he got back to the house. The boy again dipped the basket into
river and ran hard, but when he reached his grandfather the basket was again
empty. Out of breath, he said, ‘See Grandpa, it’s usless!’

’So you think it is useless?’ The old man said, ‘Look at the basket.’ The
boy looked at the basket and for the first time realized that the basket was
different. It had been transformed from a dirty old coal basket and was now
clean, inside and out.

’Son, that’s what happens when you read the Qur’an. You might not understand
or remember everything, but when you read it, you will be changed, inside
and out. That is the work of Allah in our lives.’

It is narrated on the authority of Abu Ayyub Ansari that once during the journey of the Holy Prophet (may peace of Allah be upon him) a bedouin appeared before him and caught hold of the nosestring of his she−camel and then said, Messenger of Allah (or Muhammad), inform me about that which takes me near to Paradise and draws me away from the Fire (of Hell). He (the narrator) said: The Prophet (may peace be upon him) stopped for a while and cast a glance upon his companions and then said: He was afforded a good opportunity (or he had been guided well). He (the Holy Prophet) addressing the bedouin said: (Repeat) whatever you have uttered. He (the bedouin) repeated that. Upon this the Apostle (may peace be upon him) remarked: The deed which can draw you near to Paradise and take you away from Hell is, that you worship Allah and associate none with Him, and you establish prayer and pay Zakat, and do good to your kin. After having uttered these words, the Holy Prophet asked the bedouin to release the nosestring of his she−camel.

It is reported on the authority of Talha b. ‘Ubaidullah that a person with dishevelled hair, one of the people of Nejd, came to the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him). We heard the humming of his voice but could not fully discern what he had been saying, till he came nigh to the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him). It was then (disclosed to us) that he was asking questions pertaining to Islam. The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) said: Five prayers during the day and the night. (Upon this he said:

Am I obliged to say any other (prayer) besides these? He (the Holy Prophet, ) said:

No, but whatever you observe voluntarily, out of your own free will, and the fasts of Ramadan. The inquirer said: Am I obliged to do anything else besides this? He (the Holy Prophet) said: No, but whatever you do out of your own free will. And the Messenger of Allah told him about the Zakat (poor−rate). The inquirer said: Am I obliged to pay anything else besides this? He (the Holy Prophet) said: No, but whatever you pay voluntarily out of your own free will. The man turned back and was saying:

I would neither make any addition to this, nor will decrease anything out of it. The Prophet remarked:

He is successful, if he is true to what he affirms.

First and foremost, i would like to praise Allah swt for pointing out a big mistake that i have made and showing me a more correct path subhanallah.

I realise that i have not been equipped with the best of knowledge to translate malay language to english language in perfect sense. Thus, i have discarded the idea of translating that sahih Muslim hadith book, in case i may translate to a different meaning and make me one of the people who says something that Rasulullah SAW had never mention. Astaghfirullah.

Bk 1, Number 0001:

It is narrated on the authority of Yahya b. Ya’mur that the first man who discussed about Qadr (Divine Decree) in Basra was Ma’bad al-Juhani. I along with Humaid b. ‘Abdur-Rahman Himyari set out for prilgrimage or for ‘Umrah and said: Should it so happen that we come into contact with one of the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) we shall ask him a bout what is talked about Taqdir (Division Decree). Accidentally we came across Abdullah ibn Umar ibn al-Khattab, while he was entering the mosque. My companion and I surrounded him. One of us (stood) on his right and the other stood on his left. I expected that my companion would authorize me to speak. I therefore said: Abu Abdur Rahman! there have appeared some people in our land who recite the Holy Qur’an and pursue knowledge. And then after talking about their affairs, added: They (such people) claim that there is no such thing as Divine Decree and events are not predestined. He (Abdullah ibn Umar) said: When you happen to meet such people tell them that I have nothing to do with them and they have nothing to do with me. And verily they are in no way responsible for my (belief). Abdullah ibn Umar swore by Him (the Lord) (and said): If any one of them (who does not believe in the Divine Decree) had with him gold equal to the bulk of (the mountain) Uhud and then, it (in the way of Allah), Allah would not accept it unless he affirmed his faith in Divine Decree. He further said: My father, Umar ibn al-Khattab, told me: One day we were sitting in the company of Allah’s Apostle (peace be upon him) when there appeared before us a man dressed in pure white clothes, his hair extraordinarily black. There were no signs of travel on him. None amongst us recognized him. At last he sat with the Apostle (peace be upon him) He knelt before him placed his palms on his thighs and said: Muhammad, inform me about al-Islam. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said:

Al-Islam implies that you testify that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the messenger of Allah, and you establish prayer, pay Zakat, observe the fast of Ramadan, and perform pilgrimage to the (House) if you are solvent enough (to bear the expense of) the journey. He (the inquirer) said:

You have told the truth. He (Umar ibn al-Khattab) said: It amazed us that he would put the question and then he would himself verify the truth. He (the inquirer) said: Inform me about Iman (faith). He (the Holy Prophet) replied: That you affirm your faith in Allah, in His angels, in His Books, in His Apostles, in the Day of Judgment, and you affirm your faith in the Divine Decree about good and evil. He (the inquirer) said: You have told the truth. He (the inquirer) again said: Inform me about al-Ihsan (performance of good deeds). He (the Holy Prophet) said: That you worship Allah as if you are seeing Him, for though you don’t see Him, He, verily, sees you. He (the enquirer) again said: Inform me about the hour (of the Doom). He (the Holy Prophet) remarked:

One who is asked knows no more than the one who is inquiring (about it). He (the inquirer) said: Tell me some of its indications. He (the Holy Prophet) said: That the slave-girl will give birth to her mistress and master, that you will find barefooted, destitute goat-herds vying with one another in the construction of magnificent buildings. He (the narrator, Umar ibn al-Khattab) said: Then he (the inquirer) went on his way but I stayed with him (the Holy Prophet) for a long while. He then, said to me: Umar, do you know who this inquirer was? I replied: Allah and His Apostle knows best. He (the Holy Prophet) remarked: He was Gabriel (the angel). Alhamdulillah. Allah has opened up my mind for a new idea to keep this da'wah blog going on for everyday insya'Allah. Since i have books regarding hadiths that are Shahih (approved and CORRECT), i must use this opportunity to post all the hadiths that are in the books everyday. I think that will be a great idea. Insya'Allah, i will post the hadiths by numbering order, so as to achieve better consistency. The book is in indonesian language, so i'll try my very best to translate it to good english. Make dua'as for me =)

This post is regarding hadiths that are extracted out of the book "Terjemahan Hadis SHAHIH MUSLIM (translation of Hadith by SHAHIH MUSLIM)", 1st part, 5th edition, 1984 by H.A. Razak and H. Rais Lathief.

This whole account was from 'Umar bin Khattab Radiallahu-an, who said,

"When we were sitting alongside Rasulullah SAW, a man approached us. He wore white piece clothing, has very black hair, does not look as if he had travelled on a long journey, and none amongst us recognise him. He sat in front of Rasulullah SAW, knees to knees to Rasulullah SAW and placed his two palms on Rasulullah's SAW thighs and

He asked, "O Muhammad! Explain to me what is Islam"
Rasulullah SAW replied, "Islam is reciting the two kalimah syahadah, carrying out the prayers, paying zakat, fasting during the month of Ramadhan and performing the Hajj if possible".
He replied, "What you have said is true".

We were puzzled because the man asked, and verified that it was the truth.

He then asked about iman.
Rasulullah SAW replied, "Iman is believing in Allah, His angels, His Books of revelations, His prophets, Qiyamah ( day of judgement ) and all good or bad happenings that occur are Allah's decision".
He replied, "What you have said is true".

He then asked about ihsan.
Rasulullah SAW replied, "Ihsan is worshipping Allah so whole-heartedly that you as if see Allah, but in real fact you don't.

He then asked about Qiyamah.
Rasulullah SAW replied, "The one who asks knows more himself".

He then asked about the signs of Qiyamah.
Rasulullah SAW replied, "The signs are when you see a woman who doesn't recognise her child (due to excessive and widespread fornication and divorce. also possible that the child lost so much respect to the parents that it has become a small matter) and you see a race/competition to build houses by many people (because wealth has increased so much but it is not in Allah's path. that means the wealth is achieved in a haraam way such as corruption)".

Then the man went off, after which Rasulullah SAW asked, "Do you know who that man was?"

We replied, "Only Allah and his prophets knows better".

Rasulullah replied to us, "He is none other than the angel Jibril, and he came to teach you about your religion".

I want to share a few points about Imaan insya'Allah.

Imaan = Belief

For every muslim, we believe in Laa ila ha ill-Allah Muhammad rasulullah (SAW)

It is easy to say this syahadah, just need less than 5 seconds. However, we don't really venture into the meaning of it.

No God but Allah, Muhammad (SAW) is the messenger of Allah.

We admit this by saying, but we don't bring it into our hearts. Today's challenge is to bring that Kalimah into our hearts, not mouth.

No God but Allah means that we believe, surrender and obey to the Rabb. No questions asked. When we are ordered to pray, WE MUST.

Muhammad (SAW) messenger of Allah. Without him, we won't be holding the Quran in our hands right now. Quran is in fact, Rasulullah SAW. Because without his actions, no word of Allah will be sent down to earth and reach us today.

The first of all things to do as a muslim is to strengthen the Imaan. We always try to stay away from bad things, but never pray. But with prayers itself, all bad things will go away insya'Allah.

When we question about Islam, we're questioning about Allah. Who are we to question Allah? He is not our enemy or friend who gives orders without telling why. When we don't pray, it means we're not strong. that means we don't believe. When we don't believe, it means that we push away Islam. That means we're pushing Allah away from us. Nauzubillah.

Take this scenario. We go to school. Because we believe that in school, we'll learn a lot of things that will benefit us eg during work. However, we wear the school uniform. Does that have anything to do with our salary in the future? Why do wear uniform then?

It is because we believe in the education in school, thus whatever the school tells us to do, we follow the rules. NO QUESTIONS ASKED. NO RESEARCH DONE. I invite you to relate this scenario to Islam, Imaan and Allah.

2nd scenario:

But that education comes handy in around 5-10 years' time, not immediately. But we believe that in that 5-10 yrs time, we will reap the benefits. Allah had promised us that if we do good deeds like SOLAAT especially, we have been promised the rewards. Not only in the thereafter, but also in the current world. Are we making any sense if we don't follow the orders of Allah but instead, follow rules that the world (which is temporary) has set for us?

Realisation.

Let's just forget everything else in this world for now. I may not be the best of writers who can come up with beautiful yet striking phrases that once seen, will make you think hard. I have a problem with communicating effectively and working on that. Insya'Allah, i'll try my best in this post.

Rasulullah SAW 's last words before he passed away was, "Ummati, solaat" meaning "My people, look after ur solaat". Repeated 3 times.

We realise that nothing Rasulullah saw said is pointless. And saying those words, at the end of his life and repeating it 3 times, show a great significance doesn't it? Doesn't one ponder on how great those words mean? And how much it WILL save us from the tortures of Hellfire?

Many of us want to change for the better. Allah says that He will not change a village until they change themselves first. Solaat. Pray.

We have been blinded by the Kafirs. They may be coming up with the best weapons, technology and medicines. But without Allah's will, do you tink they can achieve that? We know the fact that everything comes from Allah. You don't need proofs. Because if you put 100% in Allah, you need nothing else. Not even your life.

A muslim's best weapon is the Dua'a. Asking from Allah. The kafirs think that they are great, but can they literally OVERTURN a piece of land in just a moment like how Allah did to the people of Thamud (land of homosexuals)? But ur dua'a wont be accepted unless you pray.

You may be scoring all As, having the best voices, holding a top rank and owning a great load of fortune. But inside truly deeply, are you really happy? When we pass away, we take nothing of these with us. Try thinking hard of that.

We know of the Hellfire, yet we can speak of its tortures like casually without a real fear inside. Think hard of it, we want to avoid it, but are we really doing enough? Allah says that if we look after our prayers, He will be responsible for putting us into Heaven. Everything in this world, He already said that He will take care.

Today's TV shows boast superheroes like in Heroes, Marvel Comics, Lord of the Rings etc. Did you know that all these were already present in the past? People can heal themselves, bring a dead person back to life, fly out of this world etc. All these were done in the past because people put 100% trust in Allah, and so they were rewarded. Now the people are making up these again, and we are WOW-ING at them. How successful Shaiytan is in blinding us from Islam, Nauzubillah.

In science, astrology proves that sun runs in a circle, orbit. In quran, it was already said. Many things have been said in the past, 1400++ years ago. It is in front of us now, but yet we dont listen and THINK of it. The world have changed and still changing. But Islam 1400++ years ago and now, has NEVER changed.

I invite you to sit back, forget everything and ponder seriously on this. Are we really the muslim who believes in Allah and Rasulullah SAW ?

The reply to "mas" at the tagboard. Jazakallah and thank you for your question.

There are several restrictions.

1) For basic knowledge, it is forbidden for a man to gaze at a women non-accidentally. meaning, an accidental look is forgiven by Allah. but not the next second when he continues looking.

2) To go out on a date with only the male and female, it is haraam in Islam. The reason is, the third person is the Shaiytan. He is between the male and female and will be whispering to do evil sins that will arouse sexual feelings in the couple.

3) As a solution, it is permissible to go out as a group. Group here best fits FAMILY. for this outing, the couple will be more defensive against the shaiytan because their families will give them the support and barrier if any evil thoughts creep into their minds.

There is much more to this, but all knowledge come from Allah and I have not attained enough at this stage. What i am doing is just sharing whatever knowledge i have to benefit myself as much as others insya'Allah. Feel free to contact me and add on to any posts insya'Allah.

Rasulullah SAW said before that on the day of judgement, he will only give syafaat (help with Allah's permission) to his ummah. His ummah will be all shining with the Nur. Those not shining, will not be claimed as his ummah.

Chain Messages through Media

Assalamualaikum / Greetings dear readers.

This post is regarding something that caught my attention. This is supposed to be a very detailed post but due to time constraint, this is the best i could come up with so far Alhamdulillah.

It's been a normal practice for us human beings to send chain messages around to our contacts. Some do cheer us up and others relay good information that can be useful in our daily lives.

What got me thinking was the ones regarding messages on Islam. It is perfectly fine for us muslims to share around the useful contents of those messages but what comes at the end of the message can be considered an act of shirik, which is doing something that makes a muslim, a DISBELIEVER.

My stand also supports one of the forum discussion made by Yusuf Atiff Bin Abdel-Lateef Diab. I took some of his words from http://muslimonline.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=1137&st=0&p=7852&

We cannot be following non-muslims who state at the end of the letter that for eg "if you send this to 10 ppl, you will get good luck for 10 years.." etc. This is never the right way. If we love Allah, we do not have to show to other people. Of course, sharing knowledge in Islam is good and Allah loves it, but by writing those words, it is a sort of threat to the reader. And who are we to determine whether we will get good luck for 10 years by spreading the chain message when it is our responsibility to believe in Qada' and Qadar, in that everything comes from Allah swt and we cannot foresee what may come onto us. And Allaah says in Surah al-Isra'a ayah 36: "Do not pursue that of which you have no knowledge."

More devastatingly, when we spread the message holding the words "if you love Allah,..." this brings us closer to shirik. We do not have to show that we love Allah. We only have to PROVE that we love Him through acts of worship and doing what He orders us to do (and bring ourselves benefits) and stay away from what He damns (and save ourselves from Hellfire). Not all human beings are able to do that up to perfection because we are normal human beings. We can't even live up to the best behaviour of Rasulullah SAW and yet we are taking up the "challenge" of SHOWING (not proving) our love to Allah. Also, if we have niat to spread the message but didn't do so, wouldn't it bring more wrath to our Master?

Let's do good by spreading around this REAL message, for the sake of sharing knowledge with others and not for the sake of believing in bad omen which can bring us to shirik. Let us repent from this mistake before the sun rises from the West, and may Allah forgive our sins of the past. Ameen.

The authors of this blog sincerely apologise for our long absence, due to a lot of work and unnoticingly maybe, lacksture of imaan. A`uzubillah. But as muslims, we are trying our best to control ourselves from every possible bad deed. Insya'Allah, we'll be able to do that.

Firstly, we would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year, in the Muslim calender. Often people forget about the muslim calender. Today marks the first month, Muharram, of the year 1430 Hijrah. All praises to Allah swt for allowing us to live up to this moment.

Secondly, i have decided to take out the post on music and islaam. I feel that it is quite a big topic and needs more in-depth research before being posted. My apologies for that. May Allah guide us to greater useful knowledge. Ameen.

There is a post i would like to share today. It is about lowering our gaze.

It is a common and widespread disease that we often look at things that are haraam to us. Allah swt said that there are two things that are haraam to our eyes and ultimately, the heart. They are the property of the disbelievers and the opposite sex. Below is an account of a Muslim man that i found at http://www.sunniforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=39985.

"Lowering the gaze – Women and man’s desires

I begin by asking Allah to cure me of a wide spread disease, the disease of the un-restricted gaze and I pray that He guides me whilst I am writing this and whilst you are reading this inshAllah.

I have long been suffering by giving free reign to my eyes, suffering physically and spiritually, which has brought me to write my thoughts onto paper, or more specifically, onto the medium by which I am causing my destruction, the internet. I pray that Allah guides me through this state of heedlessness that I am in, to bring me our near to Him and into the beauty of Islaam, for what is better than being close to Allah!

You may be suffering from this too, for I have found it is a wide spread disease, common amongst Muslims unfortunately. For years I have been looking at internet sites, looking at women in the street, just to satisfy my sick desire for women. But we must remember, as young single Muslim men, that our purpose in life is not to follow our desires. If it were, there would be no need to Islaam, which is the complete surrender of your soul – and hence your desires – to the One who created us. Therefore, if our desires are not in line with the obligations placed on us by Islaam, we are not Muslim.

The Prophet Muhammad – may Allah bless him and exalt him – said that there is a cure for EVERYTHING, except death. Therefore if you feel trapped, do not – for there is a cure but you must strive if you are going to achieve it. And this striving, is the ultimate difference between Jannah and Jahannam.

Before the cure, ponder over these ayat of Allah:

“Every soul shall have a taste of death
And only on the Day of Judgment shall you be paid your full recompense
Only he who is saved far from the fire
And admitted to the Garden will have obtained the object (of life)
For the life of this world is but goods and chattels of deception” 3:185

“When My servants ask thee concerning Me,
I am indeed close (to them)
I listen to the prayer of every suppliant when he calleth on Me
Let them also, with a will, listen to My call
And believe in Me
That they may walk in the right way.” 2:185

SubhanAllah! Just think about YOUR Lord, who created you, sustains you, feeds you, clothes you, educates you, loves you, and how many people, just like you are there in this world!

I know it is hard, for the charms of women are many, but keep yourself chaste, it is purer for you. Imagine life with your wife, do you really want these haraam images to be affecting your relationship?

So the cure is simple, if you really want this cure, observe the 3 steps below:
1. Read salat ul fajr every day at its appointed time, in congregation if possible
2. Read the Book of Allah, if you don’t know Arabic, read a translation
3. Pray tahajjud every day, keep perservering, do not give up

BUT! Before you do, regardless of which item it is above, ensure you are doing it for Allah alone and imagine His greatness whilst performing these acts.

Personally, whenever I commit this sin, I keep persisting, but inshAllah I am going to implement the above 3 steps. When I commit the sin, I feel depressed, cannot think or comprehend people, I become shy, my heart turns into a rock and I feel like the scum of society. Why do this when Islaam can enlighten your heart, and provide you with the pleasures of women through marriage.

I leave you with 2 hadith to ponder over:

(10) Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah's Apostle said, "When it is the last third of the night, our Lord, the Blessed, the Superior, descends every night to the heaven of the world and says, 'Is there anyone who invokes Me (demand anything from Me), that I may respond to his invocation; Is there anyone who asks Me for something that I may give (it to) him; Is there anyone who asks My forgiveness that I may forgive him?' " (Book #75, Hadith #333)

(45) Narrated Abu Huraira: I heard the Prophet saying, "If somebody commits a sin and then says, 'O my Lord! I have sinned, please forgive me!' and his Lord says, 'My slave has known that he has a Lord who forgives sins and punishes for it, I therefore have forgiven my slave (his sins).' Then he remains without committing any sin for a while and then again commits another sin and says, 'O my Lord, I have committed another sin, please forgive me,' and Allah says, 'My slave has known that he has a Lord who forgives sins and punishes for it, I therefore have forgiven my slave (his sin). Then he remains without Committing any another sin for a while and then commits another sin (for the third time) and says, 'O my Lord, I have committed another sin, please forgive me,' and Allah says, 'My slave has known that he has a Lord Who forgives sins and punishes for it I therefore have forgiven My slave (his sin), he can do whatever he likes." (Book #93, Hadith #598)

Oh Allah, help us, forgive us, protect us from Your displeasure, and instill the light of emaan in our hearts. Ameen."

I find that this is a very inspiring account, that makes us open our eyes to things that we feel is common but in actual fact, haraam. We have a lot of gifts from Allah swt, but sometimes we misuse them, eg. the eye.

Many things that we can do to get trapped in the disease include getting closer to the Quraan and Sunnah and living by them, or simply not letting ourselves be drifting towards the slightest thought of it.

Insya'Allah, may this post help us in our daily lives and make us amongst those in Al-Jannah. Ameen.

The Feet In Salaat - The Salafi Error

Introduction

In this fourteenth century of the Islamic era, a recently mushroomed sect known as the Salafis, has invented some new rules which they believe are the Sunnat teachings of Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam). Inspite of their views being in conflict with the teachings of the Salf-e-Saaliheen belonging to the Noblest Ages of Islam (Khairul Quroon), they obstinately cling to their misguided opinions. Their method is to subject the Ahadith to their personal understanding. Inspite of the divergence which this self-opinion produces from the Way of the Ummah inherited from the Sahaabah, the Salafis intransigently cling to their deviation.

A little reflection would convince them that it is not possible that the Aimmah-e-Mujtahideen who were the Students of the Sahaabah would propagate acts which are in conflict with the Sunnah. Any act which has been accepted and practised by the entire Ummah from the earliest era of Islam cannot be deviation. Deviation will be the act which is in conflict with this sacred Unanimity.

One of the erroneous practices of the Salafis is their act of spreading their legs wide apart during Salaat. In the bid to touch the toes of the musalli standing adjacent to them, they disfigure their stance and ruin their composure with the mental preoccupation of touching the toes of the musallis standing on both sides in the Saff during Jamaat Salaat. Even when performing Salaat alone, they stretch the legs hideously apart. But for this innovation they have absolutely no Shar’i evidence. A solitary Hadith which makes reference to ‘foot with foot’ has been grievously misunderstood and misinterpreted by them. Besides their misinterpretation, they have intentionally ignored all the other Shar’i proofs which refute their interpretation.

A perusal of the relevant Ahadith on this subject will convince every unbiased Muslim that the Salafi interpretation of the Hadith is a concoction of the nafs. It is a concoction designed and prepared by shaitaan to create rifts and discord in the Ummah. When people opt to abandon the practices which the Aimmah Mujtahideen have reported on the basis of the authority of the Sahaabah, then shaitaani manipulation is evident.

All four Math-habs of the Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jama’ah unanimously refute the Salafi contention on the position to be adopted when standing for Salaat. None of the Math-habs teaches that the legs should be spread out widely when standing for Salaat nor that the toes of the Musalli alongside should be touched. Some of the Salafis go to great lengths in spreading their legs in the bid to touch the next man’s toes causing annoyance and much irritation.

The Emphasis on Straghtening the Sufoof
(Sufoof is the plural of saff which refers to the row of musallis in a Jamaat)

The Ahadith of Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) emphasise the straightening of the sufoof. The emphasis in all the Hadith narrations dealing with this subject is directed to proper saff*-formation, not on the feet of the musallis touching the toes of the musalli standing alongside as the Salafis inordinately and inconsiderately practice.

In the endeavour to sustain the practice of stretching the legs wide open while performing Salaat, the Salafis have gone to the extreme of adopting this ugly stance even when performing Salaat alone. While a man who is uneducated in the laws of the Shariah may misunderstand the solitary Hadith in which reference has been made to foot with foot, the same mistake cannot and should not be made in so far as Salaat performed alone because the question of foot with foot is not remotely related to infiraadi Salaat, i.e. performing Salaat alone.

The Salafis may abortively argue that the aim of spreading the legs wide apart is to ensure straightness of the sufoof, but what argument do they have for justifying this unbecoming practice when a man is performing Salaat infiraadan(individually)? Furthermore, there is no Hadith narration in this regard which could even be misinterpreted to support the case of a munfarid stretching his legs to the extremities of east and west or north and south, depending on the location of the Qiblah from where he happens to be.

The Salafis claim that it is Sunnah to stretch the legs wide apart and for a musalli’s toes to touch the toes of the musalli standing alongside him in the saff. This ludicrous position is imposed by the Salafis on even women who are obliged to stand with their legs wide open. What an ugly, miserable and immodest stance for a woman to adopt? A woman is an object of concealment according to the statement of Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam). When she has to stretch her legs wide open, she adopts the stance of lewd and shameless women. Throughout Salaat, a woman’s postures are to be constricted — made small and drawn in, not asserted like a man asserts and expresses his actions during Salaat.

As far as their stance is concerned for the munfarid, there is not a single Hadith which they can cite in substantiation for their view which anyhow is utterly baseless. All the relevant Ahadith on this topic teach the contrary, namely, that the feet should be held slightly apart — about four to five inches (10 cm). There also exists consensus of the Four Math-habs on this issue.

As far as the feet position for the saff is concerned, the Salafis conveniently overlook all the Ahadith which negate their corrupt view and intransigently cling to a view which they have understood to be the method. In taking to this view, they deliberately cast aside what exactly the Hadith in question says. They took a single word (namely ‘foot with foot’) out of the context of the Hadith and formulated the practice of stretching the legs wide apart and touching the toes of the musallis standing alongside on either side in the saff. For understanding this issue, it is best that we cite all the relevant Ahadith.

The Ahadith

1. Hadhrat Umar (radhiyallahu anhu) narrates that Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) said: Straighten the sufoof, line up the shoulders, close the gaps and become tender in the hands of your brothers. Do not leave any gaps for shaitaan. Whoever joins the saff, Allah will join him. And whoever cuts the saff Allah will cut him. (Bukhari & Abu Dawood)

[Become tender: that is to comply when a brother musalli in the saff touches your shoulder indicating that you should bring it in line with the shoulders of the other musallis in the saff.]

2. Hadhrat Baraa’ Bin Aazib (radhiyallahu anhu) narrates that Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) used to enter the saff from end to end, touching our chests and our shoulders. He would say:

Do not be irregular (in your rows), for then your hearts will become irregular (i.e. discord will overtake you). He would (also) say:

Verily, Allah Azza Wa Jal and His Malaaikah dispatch Salaam on the first sufoof

[When the word ‘Salaat’ is related to Allah Ta ‘ala, it denotes Rahmat, i.e. He sends down mercy. When it is related to the Malaaikah, it means that they supplicate to Allah Ta`ala to send His mercy upon His servants.]

3. Hadhrat Anas Bin Maalik (radhiyallahu anhu) narrates that the Iqaamah for Salaat was given. Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) turned towards us and said: Straighten your sufoof and stand close together, for verily I see you from behind. In a narration of Hadhrat Anas (radhiyallahu anhu) it is mentioned: Everyone among us would put his shoulder with the shoulder of his companion (alongside) and his foot with his foot.

4. Hadhrat Anas (radhiyallahu anhu) narrates that Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) said: Join your sufoof and stand close together, and stand in line with (your) necks. I take oath by The Being in Whose power is my life that most certainly I see shaitaan entering the gaps in the saff as if he is a lamb. (Abu Dawood)

5. Abul Qaasim Jadli (rahmatullah alayh) said :I heard Nu’maan Bin Basheer (radhiyallahu anhu) say: ‘Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) turned towards the people (the musallis) and say three times: ‘By Allah! Most certainly, you should straighten your sufoof otherwise Allah will create discord in your hearts.’ Thereafter I saw that a man would attach his shoulder to the shoulder of his companion (the one standing alongside), his knee to the knee of his companion and his ankle to the ankle of his companion. (Bukhari & Abu Dawood)

6. Nu’maan Bin Basheer (radhiyallahu anhu) narrates: Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) would arrange (set in order) our sufoof. One day he came out (from his home) and saw a man (in the saff) whose chest was protruding in front of the (chests of) the community (i.e. the musallis). He then commented: ‘Straighten your sufoof otherwise Allah will cast discord in your faces (i.e. in the words coming from your mouths). (Tirmizi)

7. Maalik Ibn Abi Aamir Ansaari (radhiyallahu anhu) narrates: Uthmaan Bin Affaan (radhiyallahu anhu) would recite in his Khutbah: ‘When the Salaat is ready, arrange the sufoof properly and line up with the shoulders’ (i.e. the shoulders of the musallis should all be in line and touching). (Muatta Imaam Muhammad)

8. Hadhrat Anas (radhiyallahu anhu) narrated that Nabi (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) said: Join your sufoof and draw close among yourselves and line up with the necks. Reported by Abu Dawood and Nisai. Authenticated by Ibn Hibbaan. (Bulooghul Maraam)–*I’laaus Sunnan

These are about all the narrations pertaining to the manner and style of standing in Jamaat Salaat. Explaining these Ahadith, Imaam Bukhaari (rahmatullah alayh) states in the section captioned:

JOINING SHOULDER TO SHOULDER:

This is what the Jamhoor have said: ‘Verily, the meaning (of joining in this context) is complete nearness and lining up, not actual joining (or touching).’ Al-Haafiz said: The meaning of this is to emphasise in straightening the saff and closing the gaps. And Aini too has said so. With this, the indication is towards emphasis in straightening the sufoof and closing the gaps. Qustulaani and others have also said this.

In Faidhul Baari it is reported as follows:

It is stated in Sharhul Wiqaayah: ‘The musalli should stand apart (with his feet) so that there is a distance of four fingers in between them, and that is also the view of Imaam Shaafi (rahmatullah alayh), In another view it is said that the distance (between the feet) should be one hand (i.e. about 10 cm).’ (The author says): I did not find any difference of opinion among the Salf (i.e. Salf-e-Saaliheen) between the stance (of the musalli) in Jama’ah and in infiraad (i.e. performing alone). There is no difference regarding the gap (between the feet). It is not that the spreading of the feet should be more in Jama’ah than when performing Salaat alone.

The summary of this is: When we do not find the Sahaabah and the Taabi-een differentiating in their standing position between Jama’ah and individual Salaat, then we understand that the only meaning of Rasulullah’s statement of ‘joining the shoulders’ is to line up closely and to abstain from leaving gaps (between the musallis).

The following appears in Laamiud Duraari, Commentary of Saheeh Bukhaari:

The Authorities (the Fuqaha) stated that it is best for the musalli to keep his feet about four fingers apart. They did not say that the feet should be united in ruku’ or sajdah. Aini says in Binaayah: ‘It is appropriate that there be the distance of four fingers between the feet of the musalli, for verily, this is nearest to khushoo.’

Ibn Umar (radhiyallahu anhuma) would not spread (widely) his feet nor would the one foot touch the other, but between this there would be neither much closeness nor much distance.

In Raddul Mihtaar it is reported as follows:

The meaning of joining ankles to ankles is that everyone in the Jama’ah should stand alongside the other (i.e. in a straight line). So is it said in Fataawa Samarqand). (I’laaus Sunan)

From all the narrations and views of the Muhadditheen and Fuqaha of the Khairul Quroon era it is abundantly clear that the Hadith which mentions joining foot with foot does not have a literal meaning. It simply means that the feet should be all in line, and this is achieved by the heels of the musallis all being in the same line. This will ensure a straight saff on which the emphasis of all the Ahadith is.

The Salafis

The Salafis of this age, while grabbing the words ‘foot with foot’, ignore ‘neck with neck’, ‘shoulder with shoulder’, ‘knee with knee’ and ‘ankle with ankle’. The narrations command joining of the necks just as it instructs joining of the feet. And, in the same way it commands joining of the knees and ankles. How is it possible for the neck of one musalli to touch the neck of the musalli alongside? At most, shoulders can touch. But to achieve the phenomenal act of joining necks, the musallis will have to ruin their Salaat and stand on their toes balancing at a precarious angle to achieve the goal of touching each other’s neck. But no one has ever advocated this ludicrous stance. Similarly, if the literal sense of the ‘ankle with ankle’ has to be accepted, it will place the musallis under great stress to achieve what is not simple because the protruding heels are barriers for this achievement. Also, if ‘knee against knee’ had to be literally considered, the musallis would have to stand with ugly bandied legs, stretching even their thighs hideously in order to join their knees with the knees of their companions? But, not even the Salafis have ventured such ludicrousness.

Why do the Salafis choose only ‘foot with foot’ out of the several instructions pertaining to the joining of various bodily parts? For this choice they have only their intransigent nafsaani desire –no daleel whatsoever. What is the determining factor to choose only feet and to ignore necks, knees, shoulders and ankles? On the other hand, the Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jama’ah — the followers of the Four Math-habs — *have a mass of evidence to support ‘joining of the shoulders’. Furthermore, joining or lining up of the shoulders is simple, rational and fulfills in the best way the instruction of straightening the saff.

It should be noted that the emphasis is on closing the gaps. There should be no gap between two musallis standing in the saff. But, the wider the legs are spread apart, the more the distance between the shoulders will increase. Thus, spreading the legs wide apart defeats the very command issued in the Hadith to close the gaps and straighten the sufoof.

In order to achieve ‘foot with foot’ literally, the Salafis are constrained to turn their feet at angles away from the Qiblah. In this hideous exercise they manage only to touch the toes of the adjacent musalli with much difficulty and irritation to those whose peace of mind is disturbed with the unruly encroachment of his companion’s toes. When the toes are made to touch with the feet in diagonal positions, the shoulders cannot touch, the knees, ankles, necks, etc. are thrown completely out of alignment.

When shoulders are not lined up, it is impossible to achieve straight sufoof. It is for this reason that the Hadith emphasises more on shoulders. Feet are mentioned only once. The Sahaabah and the Taabi-een relate the instruction ‘to line up’ and straighten the saff to the shoulders, necks, knees, ankles and the feet. In other words, all these should be in line, not out of alignment. It is for this reason that the Hadith clearly mentions that the Khulafa-e-Raashideen, in fact Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) himself, would order protruding chests to recede into line. Never did any of the Authorities of the Shariah speak about feet which should touch.

In the adoption of the Salafi mode, the movement is excessive in Salaat. Neither is proper Ruku’ nor proper Sajdah possible if this hideous posture has to be retained throughout Salaat. In fact Sajdah is not at all possible with the feet spread wide apart. Therefore, the Salafis are constrained to shift positions repeatedly when going to ruku’. This excessive movement in Salaat in negatory of khushoo’.

THE FOUR MATH-HABS

While the case of the Four Math-habs is logical, the actual daleel (proof) for our view is not rational interpretation, but is narrational evidence. Such evidence has been transmitted down the centuries from the Sahaabah. It should be understood that the Aimmah-e-*Mujtahideen — the Imaams of the Math-habs — had acquired their knowledge of Islam from either the Sahaabah or the Taabi-een who were the Students of the Sahaabah. Whatever they taught is therefore, what the Sahaabah had instructed. It is the height of folly and deviation to differ with them and to choose a way which is at variance with what they had disseminated.

It is not conceivable that the Salf-e-Saaliheen — all the Imaams of the Math-bas were among them — were in deviation and the present-day Salafis are on Rectitude. This is unacceptable to any Muslim who is prepared to reflect a bit. The greatest daleel for the view of the Math-habs is that whatever they teach has been acquired directly from either the Sahaabah or the Taabi-een.

The Salafi practice of spreading the feet wide apart and the irritating attempt to touch the next man’s toes are in conflict with the Sunnah as the aforegoing Shar’i evidences have established.

Conclusion

1. According to the Hambali Math-hab there should be a ‘small’ gap between the feet of the musalli.

2. According to the Maaliki Math-hab, the distance should be moderate, neither together nor so wide apart which is considered repugnant.

3. According to the Shaafi Math-hab, the gap between the feet should be one hand. It is Makrooh to spread the feet wider than this.

4. According to the Hanafi Math-hab, the distance between the feet should be four fingers.

This is the Sunnah and the Way of the Salf-e-Saaliheen. The Salafis have no authority from the Salf-e-Saaliheen to substantiate its view of bid’ah.

Virtues of reciting the Holy Qur' an, and certain of its Surahs and Verses

Recite the Holy Qur' an for it will come as an intercessor for its reciter on the Day of Judgement.

Allah Ta' ala says "If you anyone find no time for my remembrance and for begging My favours due to remaining engaged in the recitation of the Qur' an , I shall give him more than what I give to all those who beg favours of Me." The superiority of the Word of Allah over all other words is like the superiority of Allah over the entire creation.

One who recites the Qur' an and he is well versed in it ( i.e its recitation), he will be in the company of those angles who are scribes, noble and righteous; and one who falters in the recitation and has to exert himself, gets a double reward.

He who recites in a night one hundred verses, is not written of the unmindful ones. If a bondsman accomplishes the recitation of the Holy Qur' an sixty thousand angels pray on him at that time.

Allah Ta’ala said:" When you read the holy Qur’an, seek Allah’s protection from Satan the rejected one" (16:89) Ao’dhu-billahi-minash-shaytaa-nir-rajeem (I take refuge in Allah from Shaytan, the rejected one) then say Bismillah….. and start reading.

If Almighty Allah opens the locks of your heart, then you would become aware of the marvels, wisdom and knowledge found in the Holy Qur’an, with the result that you would not have to ponder on other sources. Because whatever there is, found in its pages, as the Almighty says in the Holy Qur’an:" Nothing have we omitted from the Book" (Surah Anam Verse 38).

There is no such thing in the Universe but, it is found in the Book of Allah Ta’ala.

S’ad bin Ubadh may Allah Ta’ala be pleased with him reports that the Messenger of Allah Ta’ala, peace and blessings be upon Him said:" One who learns the Holy Qur’an and forgets it(out of carelessness) will meet Allah Ta’ala as a leper." (Mishkat).

Another Hadith, the Messenger of Allah Ta’ala, peace and blessings be upon him said:" The sins of my Ummah-(nation) were presented before me, but no sin was graver then the one that, forgot a Sunnah or ayah after learning it."!!!

Emphasis have been put on with black dots as these need be read daily, if possible as du’as, guidance, mercy, forgiveness and to obtain you needs and desires(Halal never pray for haram needs or desires) Insahallah. Especially the Faatiha it can be read for anything and everything. Surah Waqi’a for provision, Surah Mulk should be memorised off by heart, from grave punishment, Ayatul-Kursi is from protection from jinns, shaytan and evil. Further details of these Surah and more will now follow.

The Excellence of Surah Fatiha

The Surah Fatiha is the greatest and most virtuous Surah of the Holy Qur' an; it consists of the Sab'a mathaani (seven verses which are which are repeatedly recited) and it Surah Faatihah represents the Grand Holy Qur' an.!The Opening of the Book is a cure from every disease.!!!It has come down to us that it is equal to two-thirds of the Holy Qur’an. Were the Faatiha to be put in one balance of the scales and the Holy Qur’an in the other, the Faatiha would outweigh the rest seven times.

This Surah is a spiritual ascension (miraj) for the worshippers.

When thou art seeking sustenance and achievement of thy purpose from slaves and free men and the speedy possession of what thou desirest, then be at rest from fears complaints. For in Faatihatul-kitab lies secrets of secrets for obtaining what is hoped for. Perverse, then, in the study of it at all times; and in the morning, at noon, afternoon, and the sunsets prayer daily recite it ninety times completed by ten more ( I’ve understood that to mean one hundred times) And thou shalt gain what thou wilt of respect and might, of awe-inspiring greatness and exalted power. (Al-Ghazali).

O Allah hear our prayer and accept us by the mystery of the Faaitha (and the worshippers shall recite it, then raise they hands on high and say) I ask forgiveness of Allah-( Astagh-firullah) [devotions after the prayer-rite( salat-namaz)]

The Excellence of Surah Baqarah ( 2)

The shaytan runs away from the house wherein Surah Baqarah is recited.Recite Surah Baqarah for its recitation is a source of blessings and its forsaking is a source of regret and only useless people are unable to recite it.

Everything has a hump and the hump of the Qur' an is Surah Baqarah.

The Last two verses of Surah Baqarah (2 : 285-286)

Reciting from Aa-ma-nar Rasul-lu… till the end of the Surah will prevent shaytan from coming even near one's house.Allah has completed the Surah Baqarah with such two verses that have been given to me from the treasures kept beneath the Throne; so learn them and teach them to your wives and children for they are a source of mercy, a form of recitation and prayers.

From Ibn Abbas (RA) He said: While Gabriel was sitting with Rasulullah sallahu-alayhi-wasallam he heard a voice from above, and raised his head. Then he said, "That is the door of heaven, opened today, which was never opened before". And an angel descended from it, and he said," That is an angel come down to earth who never came down before." And he gave a greeting and said," Receive good news of two lights brought to you, which never before brought to a Prophet, Fatihtul-kitab and the last verses(khawatim) of Surahtul-Baqarah; of these thou shalt never recite a single letter without being granted thy request".

The Excellence of Aayaatul - Kursi ( Baqarah 2 : 255)!!!

Aayatul - Kursi is the greatest verse of the Qur' an.Its is the leader of the verses of the Qur' an.If Aaytul - Kursi is blown on yourself shayaan or jinns alike will not dare come near you.

Ibn as-suna traced a Tradition-( Hadith) from Ail may Allah Ta' ala, ennoble his face said; Rasualullah sallallau-alayhi-wasallam " That Faatihatul-Kitab and the Throne-verse and Al-Imran Verses (3:18-19a) [18 starts with- Shahidallahu annah] and [19a is- innad-deena-' in-dall-hil lslam] and (3: 26-27) [ 26-27 starts from Qul-lilla-humma-malikal-mulki... to the end of bi-gheera-hisaaba] are hung upon the Throne; between them and Allah there is no veil... And Allah Most High Said, " I have sworn that none of my servants shall recite you after every prayer-rite without my making Paradise his placing him in the enclosure of holiness; and without my glancing at him with my eye of mystery, seventy glances every day; and without my supplying for him daily, seventy needs, the least of them forgiveness; and without my sheltering him from every enemy and giving him victory.

The Excellence of Surah An' aam ( 6 )

It has mentioned that when Surah An' aam was revealed, Rasulullah - Sallallaahu-alayhi-wasallam said" Al-Hadulillah" and then he said " By Allah, so many angles came to convey this Surah that the corners of the heavens became covered with their great numbers.

The Excellence of Surah Kahf ( 18 )

Whoever recites it on the eve of Jum' ah, it will provide a Nur-(lights) for him from one Jumu' ah till the following Jum'ah.Whoever recites the last ten verses of Suratal kahf, and if Dajjaal-(anti-christ) happens to reveal himself ( during the reciter's life time), he will have no influence on him (the reciter). According to another the words the first ten verses is mentioned. According to one riwayah the words whoever commits to memory ten verses of Surah Kahf is mentioned. According to one riwayah the words first three verses is also mentioned.

That who recites the last five verses of Surah Kahf, at his sleep time, Allah will wake him any time of the night.

The excellence of Aytul-Kreema (21: 87)

The prayer of Distress La-e-la-haa-ill anta subhaanaka innee kuntu mi-naz-zali-meen (There is no god except thee. Glory be to thee. Verily I am from those who have wrong themselves.) The Messenger of Allah peace and blessings be upon him, said : "Zuh-nun ( Prophet Yunus ) while in he was in the stomach of the fish/ whale said this (as mentioned above). Any distressed Muslim who utters these words shall surely be relieved of this distress".

The excellence of Surah Nur (24)

In it verse (35): 'Allah is the light of Heavens and the earth,' the parable of His light and its blessings, that the believer will look by the light of Allah.

The excellence of Surah Ya-Sin ( 36 )

Everything has a heart and the heart of theHoly Qur' an is Ya-Sin. That who recites, Allah will count for him with its recitation , Ten times the recitation of the Holy Qur' an.Rasualullah sallallau-alayhi-wasallam said " that who recites it at the outset of the day, and he presents it before performing his need, then it is done for him."Recite Surah Yaseen (morning and evening ) especially when in the presence of someone in his dying moments or after he has died, for it is mentioned in the Hadeeth that Surah Ya-Sin is the heart of the Qur' an and anyone who recites it for the pleasure of Allah and for the (reward of) the hereafter, Allah will forgive him, and (also) read it in the presence of a dying person.

This is the du’a of Mid-Shab’an. Begin after the sunset prayers by reciting Ya-Sin three times, the first with the intention of long life, the second with the intention of warding off calamity, and the third with the intention of averting dependence other then men. Another riwayah-(narration) is between Magrib and Isha’ prayer; the first to be read with the intention of raising one’s maqam(station) the second with the intention of rizq (provision) the third with the intention of protection from enemies.

The excellence of Surah Fath ( 48 )

Rasuallullah sallahu-alayhi-wasallam said that Surah Fath is most beloved to him from among all the things upon which the sun rises.

The excellence of Surah Rahman (55)

Rasualullah sallallau-alayhi-wasallam said: "For every thing a bride and the bride of the Holy Qur' an is the Most Forgiving Surah.

The excellence of Surah Waqi' a (56)

Rasualullah sallallau-alayhi-wasallam said : " That who recites Al-Waqi' a Surah during the night then poverty will ever strike him.!

The Excellence verses of Surah Hashr ( 59: 22-24 )

whoever reads this in the morning, seventy thousand angels shall seek forgiveness for him till the evening and whoever so reads it in the evening then seventy thousand angels shall seek forgiveness for him till the morning and if he passes away then his death shall be recorded as that of a martyr.

The Excellence of Surah Mulk ( 67 ) !!!

According to one hadeeth Rasulullah sallallau-alayhiwasallam said " It is my desire that Suratal-Mulk should be in the heart of every Mu'min-(believer) ".!!! ( That is commit to memory, to learn off-by-heart.) Accordingly to one hadeeth when punishment is given to a person in the grave from the legs, they (the legs) say : " you may not punish him for he used to recite Surahtal-mulk through me ( i.e by standing in Salaah and reciting it); then when punishment is given out to him through his chest, stomach and head each of them say: " you may not punish him for he used to recited Surahtal-Mulk through me." Hence this Surah saves him from the punishment of the grave.!!! The virtue of this Surah is mentioned in the Tauraah as well. anyone who recites it in the night, he has accomplished a great deal and has excelled.!

The excellence of Surah Qadr (97)

According to the Hadeeth , Surah Qadr is equivalent to an quarter of the Qur' an.

The excellence of Surah Zilzaal ( 99 )

According to one Hadeeth this Surah is equivalent to an Quarter of the Qur'an and according to another, it is equivalent to half of the Qur' an.

According to one hadeeth a Sahabi (RA) asked Rasualullah sallallau-alayhi-wasallam "O Messenger of Allah , show me a (concise) Surah of Qur' an which is comprehensive and which I may recite constancy", Rasualullah sallallau-alayhi-wasallam Mentioned Surah Zilzaal. The Sahabi (RA) said : "By Him who has sent as a Rasul, I will never recite much more than this." Saying this, he departed. Upon this Rasualullah sallallau-alayhi-wasallam said twice: " This poor person has attained salvation! This poor person has attained salvation!"

The excellence of Kaafirun ( 109 )

According to a Hadeeth , Suratal-Kaafirun is equivalent to a quarter of the Qur' an. According to the Hadeeth , there are two Surahs which are excellent, and which are recited in the two Rak' aat (Sunnah) before ( the Fard of) Fajr : Kaafirun and Ikhlaas.

The Excellence of Suratun Nasr ( 110 )

According to the Hadeeth , Suratun Nasr is equivalent to an quarter of the Qur' an.

The Excellence of Suratal-Ikhlaas ( 112 )

According to the Hadeeth, Suratal-Ikhalaas is equivalent to a third of the Qur' an.

The excellence of Suratal-Falaq ( 113 ) and Surtun-Nas ( 114 )

Mu' aw-wazatain as it is also called, is used to invoke Allah's protection against the mischief of jinn and the evil gaze (nazr) of men.

According to the Hadeeth no one ever begged of Allah with the likeness of these Surahs and no one ever sought refuge in Allah with the likeness of these two Surahs. According to one riwayah recites these two when you go to sleep and when you wake up.

Rasualullah sallallau-alayhi-wasallam is reported to have said: Recite Qul A' oozu bi-rabbil falaq , for you are unable to recite any other Surah which is very much loved and speedily accepted by Allah as this Surah. Thus as far as you can help it, do not forsake it."

The way to lengthen our acts of worship after praying:

Hazrat Moulana Farouk saheb(r.a.) has outlined special Surahs from the Quraan Sharief to be read after every Fard salaat;regarding these Surahs:-
The following is an excerpt taken from a lecture on How a Muslim should spend his day & night .

Apart from the many practices, I wish to discuss one or two more items of importance.One is the FIVE Surahs that are recited after each of the Five salaahs.
These 5 surahs are:-
* AFTER FAJR: SURAH YASEEN
* AFTER ZOHAR: SURAH FATAH
* AFTER ASR : SURAH NABA(AMMA)
* AFTER MAGHRIB: SURAH WAQIAAH
* AFTER ESHA : SURAH MULK
It appears in the Hadith that whosoever recites these five surahs after each salaat respectively,will be among the cup-bearers of the HAUD-e-KHAUTHAR. Such a person will be alongside Rasoolullah(Sallallaahu Alaiyhi wasallam) giving drinks of water to the Ummat.

BLESSINGS OF SURAH YASEEN: Allah Taala solves all our problems.

BLESSINGS OF SURAH FATAH: Allah Taala saves us from evils and Fitnah(corruption,misguidance.

BLESSINGS OF SURAH NABA(Amma): Allah Taala grants one great knowledge & wisdom.

BLESSINGS OF SURAH WAQIAH: Allah Taala grants prosperity in the business and a situation of poverty & hunger never arises.

BLESSINGS OF SURAH MULK: Allah Taala saves us from the punishment of the grave.

Besides the above Surahs, what is more important is to maintain regular Tilawat of Quraan Sharief from beginning to the end. For this fix a time when you are free from other obligations. If one has free time after Fajr then commence this form of tilawat after the recitation of Surah Yaseen.Since Duaas are readily accepted after the recitation of the Holy Quraan, follow up your Tilawat with the Masnoon duaas of the book Munajaat-e-maqbool ( or Hizbul Aazam),which has been divided into seven sections known as manzils to make for convenient reading throughout the week.

Smoking and Islam

Assalamualaikum / Greetings dear readers.

First of all, we would like to apologise to all readers for very rarely updating our entries for the past few days. Reason being is school has reopened for us and we can't let ourselves deviate from our studies. However, we will try our best to update as much as possible insyaAllah. Pray for yourselves and for us, so that we may spend more time in IBADAH than other things that are not worthy. Amiin.

I would like to reply to our brother/sister who tagged us recently. The issue on smoking. To the other brother/sister before that, we apologise once again but we need more time to compile what we actually recite during prayers. We're not good at typing arabic and we need to find the books which we used for learning how to pray. InsyaAllah, we will post it up soon.

My personal view is that, it is haraam. Even though it brings a lot of harm to us, it may bring some benefits such as mood uplifting and socialising. However, there are more harms than benefits. Thus making it haraam. Furthermore, there are better ways to socialise such as making ourselves close to the good people and for mood uplifting, we can trust in Allah and He will give us what is needed insyaAllah.

Most Muslims are aware of and try to avoid the major sins in Islam - murder, suicide, adultery, alcohol, gambling, usury, etc. Muslims are forbidden to harm themselves or others. Yet millions of Muslims all over the world are doing just that - harming, even killing themselves and their families. Islamic scholars have historically had mixed views about tobacco, and until recently, cigarette smoking has not been unanimously forbidden or even discouraged.

The mixed views on the subject came about because cigarettes are a more recent invention and did not exist at the time of the revelation of the Qur'an in the 7th century A.D. Therefore, one cannot find a verse of Qur'an or words of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) saying clearly that "Cigarette smoking is forbidden." However, there are many instances where the Qur'an gives us general guidelines, and calls upon us to use our reason and intelligence, and seek guidance from Allah about what is right and wrong. In the Qur'an, Allah says, “...he [the Prophet] commands them what is just, and forbids them what is evil; he allows them as lawful what is good, and prohibits them from what is bad..." (Surah al-Ar’af 7:157). So what are the evils of tobacco use, for your health and for your deen (religion)?

1. Danger to your health

Allah says, "...make not your own hands contribute to your destruction..." (Surah al-Baqarah 2:195); "...nor kill yourselves..." (Surah al-Nisaa 4:29). It is universally understood that cigarette smoking causes a number of health problems that often ultimately result in death. Men who smoke contract lung cancer at 22 times the rate of non-smokers. Smokers are also highly at risk for heart disease, emphysema, oral cancer, stroke, etc. There are hundreds of poisonous and toxic ingredients in the cigarette itself that the smoker inhales straight into the lungs. In an authentic hadith, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said that "Whomsoever drinks poison, thereby killing himself, will sip this poison forever and ever in the fire of Jahannum (Hell)." Over 3 million people worldwide die from smoking-related causes each year.

2. Danger to your family's health

In the Qur'an, Allah says: "Those who annoy believing men and women undeservedly bear on themselves a glaring sin" (Surat al-Ahzaab 33:58). And the Prophet (peace be upon him) said that "there should be neither harming, nor reciprocating harm.” In another hadith, the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Anyone who believes in Allah and the Last Day should not hurt his neighbor." Those around the smoker inhale what is known as "second-hand smoke" - the unfiltered, poisonous waste that goes in the air around the smoker. There are over 4,000 chemicals in cigarette smoke, over 40 of which are known to cause cancer. Second-hand smoke causes or aggravates asthma, bronchitis, and other respiratory problems, especially in children.

3. Addictive

The addiction to tobacco is a physical response that often interferes with one's life and worship. For example, smoking is clearly forbidden during the daytime fast of Ramadan. Many addicted smokers spend their fasting days sleeping, cranky, and short-tempered, just counting the hours until they can have their fix at sunset. The most severely addicted will wait outside the mosque door for the adhan, and break their fast by lighting up, before taking even food or water.

4. Noxious Smell

Muslims are advised to refrain from eating raw onions and garlic - simply as a courtesy to those around them because of the awful smell. The same goes even more so for the reek of cigarettes, which permeates everything around the smoker - hair, clothing, home, car, etc. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “Whoever has eaten from such greens as garlic, onions or leek should keep away from our mosque.” Many smokers try to hide the smell by using breath mints or perfume. This does not get rid of the smell, it only masks it. Often the combination of smells is even more nauseating.

5. Waste of Money

Allah says, "...But spend not wastefully (your wealth) in the manner of a spendthrift. Verily spendthrifts are brothers of the devils...” {Surah al-Israa’ 17:26-27} And in an authentic hadith the Prophet (peace be upon him) said that: "Allah hates for you three things: gossiping, begging, and wasting money." In the U.S. and other countries, cigarettes are taxed heavily in order to discourage this habit and reimburse the government for the overwhelming health care costs to care for those afflicted with diseases caused by smoking. Smokers often spend thousands of dollars a year that literally just go up in smoke.

Recent Opinions of Scholars

In more recent times, as these dangers of tobacco use have come to be proven beyond any doubt, scholars have become more unanimous in pronouncing tobacco use clearly haram (forbidden) to believers. They now use the strongest terms to condemn this habit. For example: "In view of the harm caused by tobacco, growing, trading in and smoking of tobacco are judged to be haram (forbidden). The Prophet, peace be upon him, is reported to have said, 'Do not harm yourselves or others.' Furthermore, tobacco is unwholesome, and God says in the Qur'an that the Prophet, peace be upon him, 'enjoins upon them that which is good and pure, and forbids them that which is unwholesome'" (Permanent Committee of Academic Research and Fatwa, Saudi Arabia).

How to Quit?

As mentioned, one of the dangers of tobacco is that it is so addicting. It causes a physical response in your body when you try to give it up. Therefore, quitting is often difficult. However, with the help of Allah and the personal commitment to improve yourself for the sake of Allah, and for your own health, it is possible. It is first recommended to make the firm intention, from deep in your heart, to give up this evil habit. Trust in Allah's words: "...When you have taken a decision, put your trust in Allah. For Allah loves those who put their trust in Him. If Allah help you, none can overcome you; if He forsakes you, who is - after that - that can help you? In Allah, then, let believers put their trust" (Surah Al-'lmran 3:159-160).

Secondly, one must avoid situations where you are used to smoking, and people who do so around you. For example, if you have certain friends who gather together to smoke, make a choice to stay away from that environment for the time being. At a vulnerable stage, it is too easy to get sucked back in by having "just one." Remember, tobacco causes a physical addiction and you must stay away completely. Drink a lot of water and keep yourself busy in other endeavors. Spend time in the mosque. Play sports. And remember the words of Allah: "And those who strive hard in Our Cause, We will certainly guide them to Our Paths, for verily Allah is with those who do right” (Surah al-Ankabut 29:69).

Living With a Smoker

If you live with or are friends with smokers, first of all encourage them to quit, for the sake of Allah, their deen, and their health. If they refuse (and ultimately we will face Allah alone), you have the right to protect your own health and the health of your family. Do not allow it in the house. Do not allow it in enclosed quarters with your family. Even if the smoker is a parent, we do not need to permit them to smoke merely because they are our parents or elders. The Qur'an is clear that we are not to obey our parents in things which are forbidden by Allah. Share with your loved ones the information above, and encourage them to give up this habit, for the sake of Allah.

Abdullah Ibn ‘Abbas (radiAllahu anhu) reported that the Prophet (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) said, ‘It is my desire/love that Surahtul Mulk should be in the heart of every Muslim’

Ibn Abbas (radiAllahu anhu) said that one of the Prophet (salAllahu alayhi wasalam)’s companions set up his tent over a grave without realising that it was a grave and it contained a man who was reciting the Surah Tabarakallahi Biyadihil Mulk up to the end. He went and told the Prophet (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) who said, ‘It is The Defender; it is The Protector which safeguards from Allah Ta’ala’s punishment’

Khalid bin Madam (tabie) said about surat Al Mulk and ‘As Sajda that these two surahs will fight for their reciter in the grave and will say, ‘O Allah! If we belong to your book, accept our intercession in his favour. In case we do not, get us obliterated. These surahs will spread their wings like birds and will save the person from the torment of the grave.’

It was narrated that Abdullah ibn Mas’ud said: Whoever reads Tabarakallahi Biyadihil Mulk [i.e. Surah al-Mulk] every night, Allah will protect him from the torment of the grave. At the time of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alaiyhi wasalam) we used to call it al-mani’ah (that which protects). In the Book of Allah it is a surah which, whoever recites it every night has done very well.

REVEALED LAW AND OBSERVANCE/RULE
(SHARIAH AND TARIQAH)

Shariah and Tariqah (Revealed law and Observance) are not two different or opposite things. Without obeying the Shariah (Revealed Law) one cannot approach Allah. Revealed law is the collection of all the commands concerning body and soul, the spirit and heart, all the divine science and the infinite knowledge. A part of Shariah (Revealed law) is called Tariqah. It possesses cognizance so unanimously that it is conclusive and final. So all the actions and performances of the saints have to be judged in accordance with the divine Shariah (Revealed law). If they are perfectly in accordance with the said law then they are true and acceptable, otherwise they are condemnable and unacceptable.

So necessarily the absolute Shariah (revealed law) is a must. It is the centre and the orbit. It is the only standard and in fact a touch stone to test the truth and the falsehood. Shariah means the path and the Shariat-e-Muhammadia means the path followed by the Holy Prophet sall Allahu `alayhi wa sallam, and it is absolutely popular and universal and is not limited to few commands relating to physical existence of body. This is the path which is prayed for five times (in every prayer (Namaz/salat) in its every "rakat" (part of Namaz) saying "(Oh Allah) lead us to the straight path". This path is the path of steadiness and of the uprightness. It is the path of the Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad sall Allahu `alayhi wa sallam, We pray Allah to establish us firmly on this path.

Similarly Tariqah is also a path, it does not mean an approach. So if Tariqah would have been a different path from Shariah then it may not help us in approaching Allah and on the other hand it may lead us to Satan. He latter may carry us to the Hell instead of Paradise, because except the Shariah (revealed law) all other paths are false and condemnable according to Holy Quran. There is no crime if we believe that Tariqah is the same path as that of Shariah and that in fact it is a lustrous part of the latter, which can not be separate from it in any case.

One who regards Tariqah (Observance) to be separated from Shariah (Revealed law) then he regards the former to be a separate path or the path of Iblis (Allah forbid it).

Tariqah (Observance) is absolutely the path of Allah and not the path of Iblis. Any individual who performs many austerities and religious exercises and also sacred endeavors cannot attain such rank or status that he can be exempted from the commands and prohibitions of the Shariah and he is not free to behave like a horse let loose from reins or a camel without bridle. Allah reveals in Quran: "No doubt on this straight path meets my Rab (Raiser)" from the beginning of the Ruku (Section) Allah addresses the Holy Prophet sall Allahu `alayhi wa sallam, saying "And that this is my straight path (Shariah) so follow it and accept it do not follow any other paths for they will separate you from the way of Allah." Thus the Holy Quran has clearly stated that Shariah (Revealed law) is the only path of which the final destination is Allah. One who follows it he advances unto Allah. Except this path one that follows any other path will be dragged away from the path of Allah.

Whatever is disclosed in Tariqah (Observance) it is the grace of obeying the Shariah. Otherwise without following the Shariah also great disclosures were made to people like hermits and jog’s (ascetics/yoga devotees) and Sannyasis (Brahmins of fourth order/religious mendicants). But all these disclosures lead them to Hell and they deserve the painful torment.

On the other hand Sufi (Muslim abstemious devotee) who controls his wishes and desires according to the Shariah (Revealed Law) and is never swept away by self-desires nor falls prey to the lust of life and lasciviousness, he never disregards the Shariah.

Remember that Shariah is food and Tariqah is energy. If one stops to consume food then he is bound to suffer the loss of energy. The Shariah is like a mirror and Tariqah is the power of sight. If one damages his power of sight by destroying his eyes then he loses his power of sight. Any contradiction to this belief may not be acceptable by common sense. If the compliance of Shariah would not have been compulsory or if it could have been neglected or set aside optionally then the Syed of Worlds Holy Prophet sall Allahu `alayhi wa sallam, and Hazrat Ali (Radi Allahu `anhu) (Allah's favours be bestowed on his face) would have regarded to be right to leave or discard Shariah.

Absolutely not. Appearance to the contrary as the degree of nearness to Allah increases the reins of Shariah are held more tightly. The good deeds of the righteous people happen to be greater in number than the common people. The people who enjoy supreme and exalted ranks in the presence of Allah are bound to perform many good deeds. The Holy Prophet sall Allahu `alayhi wa sallam, used to offer voluntary prayers (Nafil Namaz) for the whole night and used to be sorry and always shed tears in the interest of welfare of Muslims Ummah. The daily five time prayers Namaz) was obligatory for the Holy Prophet sall Allahu `alayhi wa sallam, like any other but in addition to those prayer the pre-dawn prayer (Tahajjud) was also made obligatory for his whereas this prayer is only a Sunnat (Tradition of Prophet) for the Ummat.

When Syed of the Taifa (party) Hazrat Junaid Baghdadi Radi Allahu `anhu, was asked about some people who were proud of the fact that by following command of Shariah they had become "Joined" (Wasil) and they did not need Shariah any more, then he replied "They are telling the truth they have become Wasil (Joined) but unto What? unto Hell."

He added:

"The thieves and adulterers are better than the people of such faith. If I live for a thousand years I shall neither reduce any obligation and Wajibats (expedients) nor shall I without any excuse of Shariah reduce the number of Nawafil (supplementary prayers) and Musta-habat (preferable religious acts) which I have fixed for myself. So, for the people all other ways except the way of the Holy Prophet sall Allahu `alayhi wa sallam, are closed.

One who does not follow the way of the Holy Prophet sall Allahu `alayhi wa sallam, then he can never reach his destination.

It should be borne in mind that the disrespect or contempt of Shariah tantamount to infidelity. Those who reproach and use abusive language against the scholars of the religion then they are bound to be disgraced and humiliated in Hereafter. Those who go out of the circle (Jurisdiction) of Shariah they actually commit disobedience of Allah.

On the other hand a Sufi (abstemious Muslim devotee) is in fact righteous and truthful in his action therefore an upright Sunni Muslim who follows the true faith following the commands of Allah and His Holy Prophet sall Allahu `alayhi wa sallam, always believe that the scholars of the manifest. Shariah are the heirs of the Last of the Holy Prophet sall Allahu `alayhi wa sallam, and that they are the flag bearers of the troops of religion and are guardians and custodians of the Science of Shariah.

So they regard that paying respect to the scholars is in fact like honoring the Holy Prophet sall Allahu `alayhi wa sallam, which is the real orbit of religion. So those who behave humbly and respectfully with the upright righteous and people fond of Allah are in the refuge of Allah and they are Knowers of Allah. Those who regard the scholars of religion to be eminent and superior to themselves and to be free from the worldly vices if by chance they find something in the scholars which is repugnant to Shariah then they should broad mindedly over look such errors and leave them to Allah so that He sets them right. It is the only way open to the true followers of Sunni faith in the aforesaid circumstances.

Oh Allah Guide all of us and make us steadfast and firm in our faith and make us to part from this world being the perfect followers of the truthful articles of faith. Amen oh the Merciful of the Merciful.

Memorize The Qur'an : An Inspirational Story

This is a story i lifted from one of the many posts in SUNNIFORUMS.COM

The true account of Muhammad, a brother who after attending a workshop on memorising Qur’aan and utilising all the available mediums, went on to memorise the entire Qur’aan within just 50 days (i.e 2 months). Within 2 months?!

Yes. Within 2 months. This is his account and he says:

“I declared a state of Jihad upon my soul and put death before my eyes. I made an intention to memorise the Noble Qur’aan. So I abandoned telephone calls and unnecessary visits, and I changed all the negative thoughts associated with hifdh (memorisation) to positive and practical ones e.g. When a thought came to me saying ‘I can’t do it!’ I’d say, ‘I can do it.’ If it said, ‘My memory is weak!’ I’d say ‘I take pleasure in having a great memory.’

I chose the masjid as the place of my hifdh as it preserves three:

1. The eyes
2. The ears
3. The tongue

I followed a specific dietary program consisting of eating dates, fruits and honey - and fasting helped me a great deal in that. I used to wake up before salaat al-Fajr by 2 and a half hours and I slept 2 hours after ‘Isha. I used to wake up for Tahajjud (the night prayer), prolonging my sujood wherein I would call upon Allaah ta’alaa to ease for me my affair. I would also seek forgiveness 100 times.

I began to memorise 5 pages and would recite them in the Sunnah prayers of Fajr. After salaat al-Fajr, I would begin the memorisation of 5 new pages and at the end, I would recite them in the 2 raka’ahs of salaat al-Duhaa, all the time thanking Allaah for easing the memorisation.

I would perfect the recitation of what I had memorised by listening to tapes of one of the recitors. I would read about the qiraa’ah in books or via the Muqaddimah al-Jazariyyah (poem on the ahkam of tajweed).

After salaat al-Dhuhr, I would repeat everything that I had memorised previously beginning from the 1st Juz, until salaat al-’Asr. After the ‘Asr prayer, I would repeat the new portion of hifdh and the juz before. After the Maghrib prayer, I would prepare the recitation of 10 new pages and it was only after salaat al-’Isha that I’d review the Qur’aan with my teacher, may Allaah reward him well.

Before retiring to bed, I would listen to all that I memorised in the day from cassettes and I would be sitting for 6 continuous hours, without any boredom or feeling tired. In the 1st week, I would sit for 6 hours, memorising and revising. In the 2nd week, I would sit for 8 hours. In the 3rd week, it was 10 hours and in the 4th week, it was 12 hours. In the last 10 days, I was sitting for 14 hours memorising and revising.

The hardest times for me were when it came to sleeping and eating. I ardently wished that the period of sleep would end quickly so that I could start my hifdh of the Noble of Qur’aan. Everytime I began to read the Qur’aan and memorise, I felt such delight and enjoyment that I had never felt before. Du’a was an important factor for me before and after hifdh. I would memorise a page whilst sitting down and then repeat it whilst walking. My teacher played an important role in encouraging me, in revision, in correcting me and benefiting me in terms of Tajweed.

In the last week, on the night of 20th Ramadan, only 4 and a half juz remained until completion of hifdh. So I turned to Allaah to open up my way and ease it for me. I went on to memorise it in 6 days with the Help of Allaah.

Laylatul-Qadr came, the night of delight and happiness - it was like a wedding night to me. My completion of hifdh took place between Maghrib and ‘Isha in the masjid with the Imam and those in I’tikaaf. We began the khatma (reciting from beginning till end of the Book). In the end, during the du’aa, my heart opened up greatly and I began to weep like never before. It was the most beautiful hour of my life. Allaah had honoured me with the memorisation of His Book.

During the du’aa, I remembered a dream I had more than 10 years ago… I was a Mu’adhin of a mosque and after Fajr salaah, I sat remembering Allaah in the mosque. I felt sleepy so I took a nap in the middle of the mosque, and behold! I found myself amidst a gathering. A powerful ray of light descended from the sky down to the middle of the masjid. From that light came many angels and between them were 2 big Angels. One of them turned towards me and took me to the light. I entered along with the 2 angels. I then found myself on top of a large green tree - I began to climb it in the companionship of the 2 angels. We found angels standing by the door of the 1st heaven. They said to me ‘Where are you going?’ They opened up a book and said, ‘We don’t have your name with us, so climb onwards to the top.’ And likewise, all the time (through each heaven), they said the same thing to me.

Upon arriving at the 7th heaven, we reached the end of the tree. I found angels standing at the door and they said, ‘Are you Muhammad?’ I said, ‘Yes.’ They said, ‘Enter, for the Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam) wants you.’ I said to the 2 angels that were with me ‘Come in with me.’ They said, ‘We can’t enter. But we will wait for you.’ So I entered Jannah and behold, I saw therein what no eye has seen, no ear has heard and had never entered in the heart of Man. Angels were surrounding me and there was a door, on top of it was written لا إله إلا الله محمد رسول الله. جنة الفردوس (There is no God but Allaah and Muhammad is His Messenger. Al-Firdaws Paradise).

The Angels opened the door and I entered. Before me was the Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam) sitting at the top end and beside him were men, some that I recognised and some that I didn’t. In front of him were a very large group of men, women and children. They wore white clothes, and they were so many that they had a beginning but no end. All of them were reciting Qur’aan.

The Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam) called me and I went up to him. He got up and made some space for me. I kissed him and he sat me down besides him. I asked him ‘Who are these people O Messenger of Allah?’ He said, ‘These are the people who have memorised the Book of Allaah `azza wa jall.’

Inshaa’Allaah ta’ala, the dream ended in truth. I never spoke to anyone about it until the night that I completed the memorisation of the Qur’aan.”

Drinking Water

This post is about drinking water, and its manners.

1. Amr ibn Shu’aib radiyallahu anhu relates from his father, and he from his (Amr’s) grandfather, that he said, I had seen Rasoolullah sallallahu alaihe wasallam drinking water whilst standing and also whilst sitting.

Commentary
There are many narrations mentioned wherein Sayyidina Rasoolullah sallallahu alaihe wasallam prohibited the drinking of water whilst standing. A narration of Sayyidina Abu Hurairah radiyallahu anhu is mentioned in Sahih Muslim that Sayyidina Rasoolullah sallallahu alaihe wasallam said, No person should stand and drink water, and if one forgetfully stood and drank it, it should be vomited out. Some ulama have summed both the deed and the prohibition in a few ways. Some ulama are of the opinion that the prohibition came later and repeals the previous law. Some ulama hold the opposite view that the narrations where he stood and drank water repeals the one that prohibits it. According to a well-known saying, the prohibition is not that of a Shar’ee or unlawful nature, but as an etiquette. It is also a blessing and kindness. Ibn Qayyim and others have mentioned the harm that standing and drinking causes. In short, Sayyidina Rasoolullah sallallahu alaihe wasallam standing and drinking shows it being permissible to do so, and that it is not haraam to stand and drink water. It is best not do so, as this is against the recommended practice and one will be committing a makrooh act by doing so.

2. Ibn Abbas radiyallahu anhu says, Rasoolullah sallallahu alaihe wasallam drank Zam-zam water while he was standing.

Commentary
Sayyidina Rasoolullah sallallahu alaihe wasallam has prohibited the drinking of water whilst standing. For this reason some ulama have prohibited the drinking of Zam-zam also whilst standing. They say that he drank it whilst standing because of the huge crowds and the rush, or as a concession. The well-known view of the ulama is that Zam-zam is not included in this prohibition. It is better to stand and drink it.

3. Sayyidina Anas ibn Malik radiyallahu anhu relates that Rasoolullah sallallahu alaihe wasallam drank water in three breaths (i.e. in three gulps/sips) and used to say, It is more pleasing and satisfying in this manner.

Commentary
It has been prohibited to drink water in one gulp. The Ulama have written many harmful effects in drinking water in one breath. It especially weakens the muscles and nerves. It is also detrimental for the liver and stomach.

4. Sayyidina Ibn Abbas radiyallahu anhu says, Whenever Rasoolullah sallallahu alaihe wasallam drank water, he drank it in two breaths.

Commentary
In this hadith drinking water in two breaths is intended which apparently seems correct. Sayyidina Ibn Abbas radiyallahu anhu has stated in a hadith of the Prophet sallallahu alaihe wasallam, Do not drink water only in one breath, but drink it in two or three breaths. The minimum number of sips one can take is mentioned in this hadith. Sayyidina Rasoolullah sallallahu alaihe wasallam at times drank water in two sips to show that this was the minimum amount of gulps one could take. Another explanation may be this that in the hadith it meant that two breaths should be taken whilst drinking water. If two breaths are taken whilst drinking water, then all the water will naturally be drunk in three gulps. By this explanation there remains no contradiction between this and the last hadith.

The manners of drinking water :
•Pray “Bismillah” and drink with your right hand as the devil drinks and eats with the left hand.
•To sit down and drink.
•Drink by taking three separate sips not all at once.
•Whilst drinking, suck the drink and do not make a noise.
•Do not blow into any drink for cooling.
•Say “Alhamdulilah” after drinking.
•It is not permissible to throw away any left over drink. Always cover the water that is left in a glass, jug or pot

From this, we can learn that even drinking water has its own way. Our prophet Rasulullah SAW has taught us the correct way of drinking water and SubhanAllah, what great effects it have on our body. Only to be discovered by scientists, 1400 years later.

However, a brother of mine told me once before that it was sunnah to drink the zam zam water whilst standing, with the reason of feeling very thankful for the magic water (which has not changed in pH level since more than 1000 years ago). However, as explained by the websites, it maybe because of the crowd that makes us not able to sit down and drink. But other websites did quote that it is sunnah to drink zam zam water whilst standing. Allah knows best.

Assalamualaikum / Greetings dear readers.

Today the focus is on Eidulfitri and visits to the graveyard on the morning of Eidulfitri.

Firstly the correct way of pronounciation is Eid-ul-Fitri, not AildilFitri. Eid (like the arabic letter "ain") means festivity whereas Aid(il) serves no meaning. Fitr comes from the word Fitrah, which means nature. By fasting for 30 days and arriving on Eidulfitri, our body is clean and our sins are washed away. This is what it means by fitr, which is the PURE STATE of our souls like when we were first born.

On morning of Eidulfitri, most muslim males go to the mosque to carry out a SUNNAH prayer. After which they start to disperse around to their family's houses, mainly the grandmom/dad father/mother 's house. However, there are some ppl who go around to houses other than the closest family members or relatives. It is not wrong, just that sometimes we may disturb the togetherness of a family. Maybe they did not have much time before this to gather around and have such a joyous family occassion, so maybe we may be disturbing them.

However, the most important issue is about visiting the graveyards in the morning. Maybe our parents/grandparents had passes away and since it's the end of Ramadhan, we may want to pay them a visit as a form of rememberance and respect. This is good actually, but however, the situation in Singapore is quite bad. The families come in buses or lorries, bringing in everyone. Some dressed decently, while others dress in an acceptable manner. However there are some who dresses up in new clothes that expose their adornments (aurat). To add to that, the mood that they present at the graveyard is changed to joyous and festive mood. Making a lot of noise, turning up the volumes of speakers maybe.

Bear in mind that the graveyard is a place where the deceased are seated in. It is a place to be sad. We should wear all white or black, not too colourful, as a sign of showing decency and respect. The deceased can hear us from inside their graves but we can't. They await our dua'as, especially when we visit them. But all respect and human behaviour is lost if we treat the visit to the grave as a festive and joyous occassion. Imagine how our grandmothers/fathers mother/father reacts when they hear us talking loudly and knowing the type of behaviour we potray when visiting them.

From a talk i heard from an ustaz, he mentioned that whoever dares createn immoralities / sins on the morning of Eidulfitr, he/she will do the same thing on the Day of Judgement at Mahsyar where everyone is standing in front of Allah and when everyone is panicking and chaotic, thinking about their fate i.e. Heaven or Hell.

So here, i would like to ask for forgiveness from you ladies and gentlemen if i had said anything wrong or hurt anyone in any ways. May Allah forgive me and my sins, and everyone else's too. AMIN.

From Surah Al-Hasyr:

21. If We had caused this Qur’an to descend upon a mountain, thou (O Muhammad) verily hadst seen it humbled, rent
asunder by the fear of Allah. Such similitudes coin We for mankind that haply they may reflect.
22. He is Allah, than whom there is no other God, the Knower of the invisible and the visible. He is the Beneficent,
the Merciful.
23. He is Allah, than whom there is no other God, the Sovereign Lord the Holy One, Peace, the Keeper of Faith, the
Guardian, the Majestic, the Compeller, the Superb. Glorified be Allah from all that they ascribe as partner (unto Him).
24. He is Allah, the Creator, the Shaper out of naught, the Fashioner. His are the most beautiful names. All that is in
the heavens and the earth glorifieth Him, and He is the Mighty, the Wise.

Imagine a mountain that big, if received the Qur'an, it will be SPLIT INTO HALF by fear of Allah. What fear do we have in Him?

From Surah Al-Hadid (Iron):

25. We verily sent Our messengers with clear proofs, and revealed with them the Scripture and the Balance, that
mankind may observe right measure; and He revealed (sent down) iron, wherein is mighty power and (many) uses for mankind, and
that Allah may know him who helpeth Him and His messengers, though unseen. Lo! Allah is Strong, Almighty.

Look at this :

…And We sent down iron in which there lies great force and which has many uses for mankind.... (Quran - Surat al-Hadid : 25)

The word “sent down” particularly used for iron in the verse, could be thought of having a metaphorical meaning to explain that iron is given to the service of people. But when we take into consideration the literal meaning of the word, which is, “being physically sent down from the sky”, we realize that this verse implies a very significant scientific miracle.

This is because modern astronomical findings have disclosed that the metal of iron found in our world has come down from the giant stars in outer space.

The heavy metals in the universe are produced in the nucleus of big stars. Our solar system, however, does not have a suitable structure to produce iron on its own. Iron can only be produced in much bigger stars than the sun, where the temperature reaches a few hundred million degrees. When the amount of iron exceeds a certain level in a star, the star can no longer bear it and eventually it explodes in what is called a “nova” or a “supernova”. As a result of this explosion, meteors containing iron are scattered around the universe and they move through the void until attracted by the gravitational force of a celestial body.
